TV Hanging Technician Jobs in Houston, TX 77063
EVOTECH IT LLC keeps a working list of TV hanging technicians for the stretch of west Houston between Westheimer and Richmond — Woodlake, Briar Meadow, Briargrove Park and the condominium blocks off Briar Forest Drive. It is a compact ZIP with an unusually wide range of buildings in it, and the technician who lasts here is the one who reads a wall correctly the first time. We have been doing low-voltage work across Houston since roughly 2004; the company is licensed, insured and rated 5.0 stars.
The seven things a 77063 ticket asks you to do
Strip the job title away and the work in this ZIP reduces to a short list of competencies. If all seven are already comfortable for you, the rest of this page is mostly logistics.
- Prove what is behind the drywall before a fastener goes into it. Not assume, not hope — prove.
- Match the bracket to the panel and to the wall, including the awkward case where the mount the customer already bought is the wrong one for what you have found.
- Move a large carton through a real building — a landing, a narrow hallway, a door frame — without marking anything on the way past.
- Conceal cable so it stays concealed, either in-wall with rated cable and low-voltage brackets or in a raceway that reads as deliberate instead of apologetic.
- Finish the system, not the bracket. Source connected, soundbar paired, inputs labelled, picture settings sane, remote working in the customer’s hand before you pack up.
- Hold a short, calm conversation with an owner, a tenant or a property manager who is nervous about a hole in their wall.
- Close the ticket in writing with clear photographs and an honest note about anything unusual you met.
Raw speed is not on that list. A technician who books four tickets and generates one callback has had a worse day than one who booked three and generated none. We would rather you slow down on the wall than hurry into a repair.
Condo tower, garden apartment and 1960s ranch house — three jobs in one ZIP
77063 is small on a map and layered in practice. You can be on an upper floor of a managed mid-rise before lunch and standing on a slab in a single-story brick house forty minutes later. The panel is the same; almost nothing else is.
| What you pull up to | What is usually behind the wall | What actually costs you time |
|---|---|---|
| Mid-rise and condominium blocks off Briar Forest Drive | Light-gauge steel-stud partitions; masonry or poured party walls between units | Certificate of insurance naming the building, elevator booking, sign-in, posted quiet hours |
| 1970s and 1980s garden apartment complexes around Woodlake | Wood stud on interior partitions, furring strips over block on exterior walls | No lift, gate codes, leasing-office hours, parking nowhere near the unit door |
| One-story brick houses in Briargrove Park and Lakeside | Wood stud, occasional plaster, a masonry firebox in the den | Attic access over a low-slope roof, older owners who want the work explained as you go |
| Townhomes and patio homes off Richmond Avenue | Engineered lumber, tall stairwell walls, two-storey volume over the living room | Getting an 85-inch box around a half-landing, and ladder footing on stairs |
The practical consequence is that you cannot standardise your van around one building type. The technician who carries only lag bolts is useless in a steel-stud condo, and the one who carries only toggles is useless over a firebox. Both turn up on the same day here.
Stud finders lie on this route — how we expect you to verify
The single most common cause of a ruined afternoon in 77063 is a fastener placed on the strength of one electronic reading. Apartment framing around Woodlake does not sit dependably at sixteen inches on centre; some of it is twenty-four, some of it is furring strip over concrete block, and a furring strip will read exactly like a stud to a cheap detector while holding nothing at all.
What we expect before a lag goes in
- Two independent confirmations — detector plus a magnet run for drywall screws, or detector plus a fine probe inside the area the plate will cover.
- Any test hole placed where the bracket will hide it, never above or beside it.
- Edges found on both sides so you are centred on the member rather than clipping it.
- A quick sanity check for the obvious hazards — a switch or outlet directly below, a dryer vent, a plumbing wall behind a bathroom.
When the answer is steel, block or unknown concrete
In steel stud, a lag screw is a decoration. The correct answer is a toggle rated with real headroom over the panel and bracket weight, or a plate that spans two members. Over block and brick veneer, you are drilling masonry with the right bit and a sleeve or wedge anchor sized to the load — plastic plugs meant for a picture frame are not acceptable on our tickets at any panel size.
If you reach concrete you cannot identify, especially in a mid-rise, the rule is simple: stop, photograph it, and call it in. Nobody on our list has ever been penalised for stopping on a structural question. The reverse has ended working relationships.
Paperwork we check before your name goes on the board
This part is unglamorous and it is where most applications stall, so it is worth being straight about it.
- Current general liability cover held in your own name, with a certificate holder you can add on request. Several managed properties in this ZIP will not admit a vendor otherwise.
- Commercial auto coverage for the vehicle you will actually drive to the address.
- A valid Texas driver’s licence and a background screening you are willing to sit for right away. Buildings ask; we have to be able to answer.
- A W-9 and a business name if you operate as one.
- Your own hand tools, ladders, detection kit and hammer drill. We are not equipping a van for you.
On licensing, be clear about what applies. Hanging a display is not itself a licensed trade in Texas. Structured cabling and the low-voltage side of the work sit under EVOTECH’s licence and our supervision, which is one of the reasons our technicians work on our tickets rather than their own. If you already hold credentials of your own, bring them to the conversation — they are relevant, they are just not a substitute for insurance.
What you are paid gets settled in that interview, weighed against the scope you take on and the depth of what is already behind you. No number is printed here; a recruitment page that prints one is guessing.
Dispatch, arrival windows and the photo set that closes a ticket
Work arrives as a message with the address, the panel size, the mount type, the access notes and the window. You accept or decline inside a stated time — declining is fine and costs you nothing; going quiet is what removes people from the rotation.
We build a day geographically. Inside this ZIP that usually means grouping Woodlake and Briar Meadow addresses together rather than sending you back and forth across Gessner between two appointments. If a building has a fixed elevator window, that ticket anchors the day and the others move around it.
Customers get an arrival window, not a minute. You call ahead when you leave the previous address. If something has gone wrong and you are going to miss the window, dispatch needs to hear it from you early enough to warn the customer, because the customer forgives a heads-up and does not forgive a doorbell that never rings.
What we need back
- A photograph of the wall before anything happens to it.
- A photograph showing the anchor or stud verification while it is still visible.
- The finished front elevation, straight on, with the panel powered up.
- The cable path or raceway run.
- A line of notes on anything unusual — existing damage you found, a customer who declined part of the work, a wall that changed the plan.
Putting your name forward for Woodlake and Briar Meadow work
Applying is a phone call, not a portal. Ring (832) 359-2425, or leave your details on our contact page, and somebody will ring you back to talk it through.
Have five things ready when you call: how many years you have been putting screens on walls and roughly how many of them, your insurance status today rather than what you intend to buy, the vehicle and ladders you have, the days and hours you can genuinely cover, and one or two people who will speak for your work. If the honest answer to the insurance question is "not yet", say so at the start — it is a fixable problem and a poor surprise.
From there the sequence is short: a conversation, a check of documents, then a small first ticket in this ZIP with a known wall and a sensible panel, so each side can watch the other work before anything larger is handed over.
