TV Mounting Jobs in Houston, TX 77077
EVOTECH IT LLC is taking applications from TV mounting installers and low-voltage subcontractors who want to work the 77077 corridor west of Beltway 8 – Briar Forest, Ashford, Parkwest and Lakeside Estates. Dense routes, constant lease turnover, and a dispatcher who tells you the scope before you drive.
What a Week of 77077 Work Actually Looks Like
ZIP 77077 sits west of Beltway 8 and south of the Katy Freeway, wrapped around Briar Forest Drive, Dairy Ashford and Eldridge Parkway. A large share of the housing here is garden-style and mid-rise apartment communities built from the late 1970s through the 1990s, with single-family pockets such as Lakeside Estates, Parkwest and the Briar Forest subdivisions filling in between them.
That housing mix decides everything about your day. Lease turnover in this part of west Houston never really stops, and a good deal of it tracks the corporate relocation cycle around the Energy Corridor. People arrive, sign a twelve-month lease, hang a television the first weekend, and take it back down when the lease ends. Two kinds of tickets come out of that in volume: first mounts in a unit the resident has never lived in, and dismounts where somebody wants the bracket gone and the holes left tidy.
The upside for an installer is route density. A dispatcher can stack three to five stops inside a couple of square miles, so the day is spent working instead of sitting on the Beltway. The catch is that no two buildings inside the same community are framed the same way.
- Older garden apartments: wood studs at irregular spacing, sometimes furred out over concrete masonry on the demising walls, and decades of patched drywall that reads badly on a cheap stud finder.
- Newer mid-rise units: light-gauge metal studs, which will not hold a lag bolt and need a correctly rated toggle instead.
- Single-family in Lakeside Estates and Briar Forest: 1970s and 1980s slab homes, brick fireplaces, real attic space, and owners who want the cable buried rather than stapled.
Gate Codes, Leasing Offices and Third-Floor Walkups
Access is half the job in this ZIP and it is the half that wrecks schedules. Most of the larger communities here run controlled-access gates, call boxes, and visitor parking that is limited, marked and enforced.
Before you roll
- Sort out the gate or call-box procedure the evening before, never from the driveway with a customer waiting.
- A number of the bigger properties will not allow a contractor to work on site until a certificate of insurance is on file with the leasing office. Our office handles that filing, but it has to exist before the appointment is set.
- Mid-rise buildings sometimes require a freight elevator reservation or a designated loading entrance. Ten minutes of planning buys back an hour.
Once you are on the property
Three-story walkups are everywhere in 77077 and none of them have an elevator. A 75-inch panel still in the factory carton does not go up a switchback stair alone, and pretending otherwise is how screens and backs get broken. When a ticket shows a large panel above the ground floor, it is a two-person lift and it gets scheduled as one.
There is one rule specific to rental work that we enforce hard: the resident is not always the person allowed to authorize a hole. Where a lease restricts wall penetrations, that gets settled between our office and the property, not on the doorstep by the installer. If a resident pushes, you stop and call in. No installer here has ever been penalized for making that call.
The Skill Floor and the Toolbag
You do not need a decade behind you. You do need to be genuinely reliable at a short list of things, every single time.
| Skill | What competent looks like |
|---|---|
| Locating structure | Electronic finder plus a rare-earth magnet to confirm the fastener line, then a small probe inside the footprint the bracket will cover. Lags land in the center of the stud, not the edge of it. |
| Fastening into what is really there | Telling a wood stud from a metal stud from a furred-out masonry wall from plain drywall, and carrying correct hardware for all four without a parts run. |
| Level and alignment | Bracket level to the wall and centered on the furniture beneath it, then rechecked once the arms are locked and the panel is loaded. |
| Cable management | In-wall rated cable and low-voltage brackets where concealment is allowed, clean paintable raceway where it is not. |
| Leaving the room right | Drop cloth down first, dust vacuumed, furniture back where it started, the customer walked through how the mount articulates before you leave. |
On tools, plan to show up with your own cordless drill and impact driver with real clutch control, a stud finder, a four-foot and a torpedo level, a socket set, a drywall saw, fish rods, a six-foot ladder, a vacuum, drop cloths and shoe covers. A dependable insured vehicle that carries a ladder is not optional in this territory.
Insurance, Licensing and How We Vet a Subcontractor
EVOTECH IT LLC is a licensed and insured low-voltage contractor and has been working in the Houston area for more than twenty years, with a 5.0-star customer rating. That reputation is what a subcontractor borrows the moment they knock on a door in our name, so the vetting is not a formality.
Before a first assignment, every subcontractor provides:
- Proof of your own general liability coverage, with a certificate we can keep on file.
- A completed W-9.
- A valid Texas driver’s license and current vehicle insurance.
- Two references from work you have genuinely done – a builder, a retailer, or a property manager is ideal.
You will be walking into occupied homes and apartments where residents, kids and pets are present, and we expect that to be treated as seriously as the install itself. We are equally plain about scope. We will tell you which parts of a job sit inside our contractor license and which do not, and nobody here is asked to improvise on electrical work. When a job needs a licensed electrician, it gets a licensed electrician.
How Jobs Reach You
Dispatch here is written down rather than improvised.
- The job is scoped first. Customers get a free on-site estimate and an itemized quote, so by the time a ticket reaches an installer the mount type, the wall construction and the access notes are already documented, usually with photographs.
- You receive the ticket with the address, the arrival window, the access instructions and the parts list, and you accept or decline it. Declining is fine and is not held against anyone. Accepting and then disappearing is the one thing that ends a working relationship immediately.
- You confirm with the customer inside the window and message the office when you are on site.
- Anything the customer asks for beyond the written scope goes back through the office as a change order. Installers never quote at the door, which keeps you out of that conversation altogether.
- You close out with photographs of the finished install and the room left clean.
Compensation is discussed during the interview and depends on the scope of the work and your experience. We would rather have that conversation properly, against real jobs, than publish a figure that turns out to be wrong for the work you actually end up running.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need my own tools and vehicle to work 77077?
Yes. Subcontractors arrive with their own drill and impact driver, stud finder, levels, fish rods, ladder, vacuum and drop cloths, and with an insured vehicle that can carry a ladder. Mounts, in-wall kits and consumables specific to a booked job are handled through the office so you are not fronting materials.
How much of the work here is apartments versus houses?
The balance leans toward rental units because of the apartment density along Briar Forest and Dairy Ashford, but Lakeside Estates, Parkwest and the surrounding single-family streets produce a steady share of longer jobs with concealment and fireplace work. Most installers see both in the same week.
What if a renter’s lease does not allow wall penetrations?
You stop and call the office. We resolve it with the property or the resident, and if a no-drill solution is the answer we will re-scope the ticket. Installers are never asked to decide that on the spot or to take a resident’s word for it.
Is evening and weekend availability required?
It is not required, but installers who can take some Saturday and after-hours work tend to get offered more, because rental move-ins in this corridor cluster around weekends. Tell us your real availability at the interview rather than over-promising.
I have done cable or satellite installs. Does that count?
It counts for a lot. Wall fishing, ladder work, customer-facing manners and knowing how a drop is routed all transfer directly. What usually needs sharpening is fastener selection on metal stud and masonry walls and the finish expectations on a visible living-room install.
