Installer Recruitment — Alief

TV Mounting Installer Jobs in Houston, TX 77072

Alief is one of the densest routes we dispatch. Apartment blocks, early-1980s single-storey houses and a solid wall of small businesses along Bellaire Boulevard and Bissonnet, all packed into a few square miles. Short drives, many stops, and a job where knowing the rules of a rental unit matters as much as knowing how to hold a level.

The Shape of a Working Day in 77072

Most Houston routes are defined by driving. This one is defined by stopping. The area bounded roughly by Beltway 8, Bellaire Boulevard, Bissonnet and Synott holds a very high number of addresses per square mile, so a full day here can mean more visits and far less windshield time than the same day in a suburban ZIP.

The housing splits into two clear halves. There is an enormous amount of multifamily — garden-style apartment complexes largely built through the 1970s and 1980s, two and three storeys, exterior stairs, wrapped around parking courts. Alongside it sits a grid of single-storey brick-veneer houses on slab from the same era, owner-occupied in some blocks and rented in others.

Layered over both is the commercial strip. Bellaire Boulevard through here is one of the most concentrated small-business corridors in the city, dense with restaurants, groceries, salons, clinics and shops, and a lot of them want a screen on a wall.

If you like a schedule with momentum, this route rewards you. If you need a long quiet drive between jobs to reset, it will wear you out.

Rental Work: The Lease Is Part of the Job

A large share of tickets in this ZIP are in units the occupant does not own. That single fact changes how you work, and it is the thing new installers on this route get wrong most often.

Before a hole goes in a wall in a leased unit, somebody with authority has to have agreed to it. That is not a formality invented to slow you down — it is the difference between a happy customer and a deposit dispute that lands back on the contractor. Our office confirms permission at booking, but you are the last person who can catch a problem, so if the story at the door does not match the ticket, you stop and call rather than drilling on somebody’s word.

It also means you should be fluent in the no-drill and low-damage side of the trade. A floor-standing or rolling stand, a fireplace or furniture-top solution, or a mount that concentrates its fixings into a small patchable area are all legitimate answers when a landlord has said no. Being the installer who can offer an alternative instead of leaving empty-handed makes you far more useful than one who can only do it the one way.

Screens, Menu Boards and Shop Walls on Bellaire Boulevard

The commercial side of this route is small-format and high-frequency. A restaurant that wants two menu screens above a service counter. A grocery with a display at the entrance. A salon that wants something on the wall people can watch while they wait. A clinic waiting room. None of it is large, and almost all of it is time-sensitive, because the owner is trying to fit you between customers.

Practical realities to expect: tenant-space walls are frequently metal stud with a single layer of board, so anchoring into the stud web or fitting a proper backer is not optional on anything heavy. Ceiling-drop and high-level mounts are common where wall space is taken by shelving or a counter. Cable has to be presented properly in a customer-facing room, which means raceway run straight and fastened, not a lead taped down the wall.

Timing is the other skill. Being able to start before opening or work through a quiet mid-afternoon window is worth more on this corridor than raw speed.

Gate Codes, Exterior Stairs and Where the Van Goes

The access problem here is real and it is where unprepared installers lose their day. Many complexes are gated with a code or a call box, and the code you were given at booking is not always the code that works today. Standard practice on this route: confirm access details the morning of, not on the doorstep, and have the office phone number to hand rather than letting the customer solve it for you.

Parking is genuinely tight. Complex lots are assigned or numbered, and taking a resident’s marked space during a two-hour install is a fast way to get a vehicle towed. Find visitor parking or ask before you unload.

Then there are the stairs. Garden-apartment blocks of this era use exterior open staircases and narrow breezeway landings. A large panel and a ladder have to come up those in Houston weather, sometimes in rain. Carry a moving blanket, keep a tarp for the carton, and do not attempt an awkward carry up a wet metal stair tread alone just to save a trip.

Wall-space geometry inside these units is also constrained. Tight living rooms, doorways in the wrong place, and radiator or utility chases mean the ideal mounting position and the only possible mounting position are often not the same. Say so plainly and early rather than discovering it halfway through.

What Sits Behind an Early-1980s Alief Wall

The single-storey houses on this route are typically slab-on-grade with brick veneer outside and conventional timber framing inside. That is friendly construction to work in — studs read cleanly, and there is usually an attic above for a vertical run.

Two cautions. First, the attic. Houston attics in summer are dangerous, not merely unpleasant. If a run needs attic access, go early, take water, watch your footing on the joists and do not push through heat symptoms to finish a job. Second, buildings of this vintage can have textured ceilings and older joint compound that may contain asbestos. Installers do not sand, scrape or disturb those surfaces. If a job would need more than a small anchor penetration in that material, work stops and the office brings in the right specialist.

In the apartment blocks, expect shared demising walls between units. A shared wall is not yours to drill through, so control your depth and know which wall you are on before the bit turns.

Working a Route Where English Is Often a Second Language

Alief is one of the most linguistically diverse parts of Houston. On a normal week an installer here will be welcomed into homes where the household speaks Vietnamese, Spanish, Mandarin, Urdu or Arabic, and where the person who booked the job may not be the person who opens the door.

You do not need to be multilingual. Installers who do well here are simply patient and visual. Show the mounting height with your hand on the wall before you mark it. Point at the marked spot and wait for a clear nod. Use a phone translation app without embarrassment. Let a family member translate. Confirm the important decisions twice — position, height, and whether a hole in that particular wall is agreed.

If you can speak another language, say so when you apply. It is a genuine advantage on this route and it affects which tickets we send you.

Insurance, Documentation and the Standard You Work To

EVOTECH IT LLC is a licensed and insured low-voltage contractor working the Houston area for over twenty years, since around 2004, with a 5.0-star rating. Installers carrying our name are held to that.

Requirements before a first ticket: a valid driver’s licence and a reliable vehicle, your own general liability coverage if you subcontract, a completed background check, and current paperwork on file including a W-9 for subcontract work. In-wall cable must be in-wall rated, and mains leads never go inside a wall cavity.

Documentation matters more on this route than most, because of the rental mix. A wall photographed before you start and after you finish protects the tenant, the customer and you. Make it a reflex.

Compensation is discussed at interview and depends on scope and experience. We do not publish rates, because what the work pays depends on what you are equipped to take on.

Putting Your Name In for Alief Work

Call (832) 359-2425 or use the contact page and tell us you are asking about installer work in 77072.

Useful things to mention: whether you have worked multifamily or property-management jobs before, any languages you speak, whether you are comfortable with a high-stop-count schedule, and whether you can take an early or after-hours window for the commercial work on Bellaire. Photographs of finished installs help more than a written history.

Frequently asked questions

Can I mount a television in an apartment that the customer rents?
Only when permission from the landlord or property management is in place. Our office confirms that at booking. If you arrive and the situation on the ground does not match the ticket, do not drill — call the office. Where fixings have been refused, offer a floor stand or another no-penetration option instead.
What do I do if a gate code fails or a complex refuses me entry?
Call dispatch immediately rather than spending thirty minutes at a call box. Access problems on this route are common enough that we plan around them. The worst outcome is an installer who quietly loses an hour and then runs late for the next three stops.
The jobs sound small. How many can one person realistically do in a day?
It varies with the work and we will not put a number on a web page and pretend it is a promise. What is true is that drive times here are short, so the limiting factor is usually access and set-up rather than distance. Installers who are organised with their kit get noticeably more out of this route than installers who are not.
Do I need to speak Vietnamese or Spanish to work here?
No. Most of our installers on this route are English-only and manage fine with patience, clear gestures and a translation app. If you do speak another language it is a real advantage and we will tell you so — mention it when you apply.
What kind of commercial work comes through in 77072?
Small-format retail and hospitality, mostly along Bellaire Boulevard and the Bissonnet strips. Menu boards above a counter, a display in a waiting room, a screen in a salon or clinic. Expect metal stud walls, surface raceway, and an owner who wants it finished before the next rush.
