TV Installer Jobs in Houston 77043 (Spring Branch West and the Clay Road Corridor)
Between Beltway 8 and Bingle the addresses flip back and forth between a flex-office suite on Brittmoore and a 1962 ranch house two streets over. EVOTECH IT LLC is adding subcontract installers who are comfortable pulling into both kinds of parking lot in the same day.
Half This Route Is a Business Address
Clay Road, Brittmoore, West Little York and Gessner carry an unusually heavy run of small warehouses, contractor yards, service shops and flex-office suites, and a fair share of our 77043 tickets come out of them. That is the first thing an installer should understand about this ZIP code before deciding whether the route suits them.
A commercial ticket here does not look like a living room. It looks like a break-room screen over a folding table, a display behind a parts counter, a conference-room panel with an HDMI plate and a floor box that somebody else installed three tenants ago, or a pair of production-board monitors hung on a warehouse wall where the nearest outlet is fifteen feet away and eleven feet up.
The person meeting you is a facilities manager, a shop foreman or the owner. They are not taking the day off while you work. They want to know how long the aisle is blocked, whether your ladder is in the forklift path, and whether the cable is going to look like it belongs in the building when you leave.
The flex-office suites near the eastern edge of the Energy Corridor add a second rhythm: a suite changes tenants, the new occupant wants displays in two rooms and a huddle room fitted out, and the whole thing has to be finished before staff move in on Monday. Those are good tickets for an installer who plans ahead and bad tickets for one who improvises.
Concrete Tilt-Wall, Metal Stud and Open Ceiling
Residential mounting skills transfer to this work, but the substrate does not. A 77043 commercial building is usually concrete tilt-wall or CMU on the outside, light-gauge metal stud on the inside, and either an exposed structural deck or a lay-in grid overhead. Every one of those changes the answer.
| What you are facing | What it means for the install |
|---|---|
| Concrete tilt-wall or CMU | Hammer drill and the correct sleeve or wedge anchor. Contain the dust if the space is occupied. Nothing gets buried in the wall – the cable runs in raceway or conduit. |
| Light-gauge metal stud with drywall | Find the stud, then add real backing or a cross-stud plate. Drywall toggles by themselves will not hold a large panel through a year of somebody bumping it. |
| Wood stud interior partition | Lag into framing as normal. In-wall power kits only where the job genuinely allows one, never as a shortcut around an electrician. |
| Exposed deck or open ceiling | Independent support – J-hooks and proper hangers. Cable never rides on grid tiles, conduit or a sprinkler line. Plenum-rated cable where the ceiling is a return air path. |
| Storefront glass and mullions | Not a wall mount. A floor stand, a ceiling drop or a freestanding fixture, scoped before the truck is loaded. |
Height is the other difference. A warehouse display can sit well above what a six-foot step ladder reaches, and that means a taller ladder, a platform, or an arranged lift. If a ticket needs a lift, say so when you accept the window instead of finding out on site.
The Other Half: Ranch Houses and Three-Storey Townhomes
Away from the commercial spine, 77043 is Spring Branch West: broad lots of single-storey brick ranch houses built from the middle fifties into the seventies, on slab, with low-pitch attics and blown insulation. There is no crawl space under a slab, so a cable run goes up into the attic, down inside a wall cavity, or into a surface channel. In July that attic is a short-window job – early morning, or not that day.
Those same lots are being scraped one at a time and replaced with rows of three-storey townhomes, which is the second construction type on this route. New townhomes are wood stud and easy to mount into, and some are pre-wired with a media box behind the main wall. The catch is geometry, not framing: the living room sits on the middle floor, the stair is a switchback, and there is no lift. Carrying an eighty-five inch panel up that stair is a two-person job and we treat it as one.
Expect a keypad gate on some of the newer rows, a guest space that is already taken, and a ticket where the only honest place to park is on the street. Build ten minutes into your window for it.
Time Windows When the Customer Cannot Close
Commercial work along this corridor rarely means shutting a business down. It means being on site before a counter opens, during a lunch lull, or after close, and being finished when you said you would be. Residential windows are ordinary daytime and early evening. Dispatch batches what it can so you are not crossing Beltway 8 twice in an afternoon.
Three things we ask of every installer, and they are not negotiable. Accept only the window you can actually hit. Call dispatch the moment traffic on I-10 puts you outside it, so a customer hears it from us rather than from silence. And if the job on site is bigger than the job on the ticket – a wall that turns out to be block, a display twice the size that was described, a power problem nobody mentioned – stop and call before you improvise. We re-scope it, the customer is told, and you are not left absorbing work you never agreed to.
Coverage, Badges and the Paperwork Property Managers Ask For
Subcontractors run their own business and carry their own general liability coverage. On the commercial half of this route you will also be asked for a certificate of insurance naming the property manager or building owner, and that is a request you want to be able to satisfy in an hour rather than a week – an installer who cannot produce one gets turned around at the door and the ticket goes to someone else.
Beyond that: a background check, because this work puts you inside other people’s homes and businesses; photo identification; and a W-9. A registered company is welcome and a sole proprietor is equally welcome. Certain categories of low-voltage work are regulated in Texas. Anything in that category is performed under EVOTECH’s licence, and we will tell you plainly what you personally need to hold before a ticket of that kind is routed to you. We do not guess about that and neither should you.
Compensation is worked out at the interview and depends on the scope you take and the experience behind you. We are not going to publish a figure that would be wrong for half the people reading this page.
