Field installer work – Sharpstown and Gulfton

TV Installer Jobs in Houston 77036 (Sharpstown, Gulfton, Bellaire Boulevard)

Southwest Houston gives an installer a very particular kind of day: short drives, small tickets, apartment buildings stacked close together, and a shopping strip full of independent businesses that all want a screen on the wall. EVOTECH IT LLC dispatches into 77036 constantly and is adding installers who can handle that pace without getting careless.

What kind of work actually comes out of 77036?

This is not a route of big single installations. It is a route of many modest ones, close together, with an unusually high share of rental turnover behind them. Somebody moves in, wants the television off the dresser and onto the wall; somebody else moves out and wants it taken down and the holes dealt with sensibly.

Across an average week the mix looks roughly like this:

  • Apartment and rental mounts, including the take-down-and-rehang pairing when a tenant relocates within the same area
  • Older single-family houses on the Sharpstown streets, where an attic run is genuinely available
  • Independent businesses along and around Bellaire Boulevard – restaurants, bakeries, salons, phone and repair shops, small clinics
  • Repair calls on somebody else’s work, which is a category of its own here and needs tact as much as tools

Because the addresses sit close together, the thing that decides how the day goes is not driving speed. It is whether your van is stocked for four different wall types before you leave in the morning.

Why is apartment work treated as its own skill set here?

Gulfton and the blocks around it hold one of the densest concentrations of apartment housing in Texas, much of it built in the nineteen-sixties and seventies and rehabbed repeatedly since. An installer who only knows suburban wood framing will struggle in the first hour.

The walls

Interior demising walls in that generation of garden apartment are often concrete block or solid masonry, with the remaining partitions in timber or later light-gauge steel. Scanning tells you very little. The professional move is a small test hole inside the footprint the mount plate will cover, then choosing hardware to suit what the bit told you.

The lease

Plenty of leases here restrict drilling outright or attach a charge at move-out. That is the customer’s decision to make, not yours to wave away. Ask whether management has approved it, and if the answer is uncertain, present the reversible options honestly – a slim fixed mount into one stud with a small patchable pattern, a floor-standing stand, or a stand-alone credenza arrangement – and let the tenant choose. Reassuring a renter that nobody will notice is how a complaint reaches us three months later.

Getting to the door

Three-storey walk-ups have no elevator, building numbers do not always run in sequence, pedestrian gates need a code, and guest parking is limited and actively enforced. Confirm the gate code, building letter and unit before you leave the previous stop. A large panel up an exterior stair is a two-person carry, and we would far rather send two people than replace a cracked screen.

One more thing worth saying plainly: if you pull a plate and find aluminium branch wiring behind it, stop and report it. That is an electrician’s decision, not an installer’s, and we will not ask you to work around it.

How different is the small-business half of the route?

The shopping centres along Bellaire Boulevard and the strips feeding off Beechnut and Bissonnet are full of owner-operated businesses, and that changes the appointment in a way that surprises installers coming from residential work: the person who signs is usually standing next to you the entire time.

JobWhat it really involves
Menu board wall behind a counterSeveral displays set to a matched height and line, a tidy cable path, and the owner’s media player handed back working
Screen above a service counter or barHeat, steam and grease exposure, tilt set for a standing customer, ventilation clearance respected
Waiting-room displays in a clinic or salonRepeat identical mounts, quiet work, and no dust anywhere near treatment areas
Long source-to-display runsCable carried on J-hooks above a suspended grid – never resting on tiles, never tied to sprinkler pipe or duct

Timing is the other difference. Restaurants give you the gap between lunch and dinner or an hour before opening, and they mean it. Arriving late does not shift the window; it cancels it.

Do I need to speak another language to work this route?

No. Many customers here speak Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Urdu or Arabic at home, and we do not ask installers to be interpreters. What we ask for is a method that makes language mostly irrelevant before the drill comes out.

  1. Hold the mount against the wall and mark the centre with painter’s tape. Agreement on a physical mark is agreement in any language.
  2. Show the height with the panel itself, seated and standing, before anything is fastened.
  3. Use photographs of the finished result on your phone to explain what an option will look like.
  4. Confirm the plan with the person paying for the work, not simply whoever opened the door.
  5. Write what you actually did in plain words on the paperwork, so there is a record everybody can read later or translate.

Patience is the real qualification. Almost every callback that comes to us off this route traces back to an installer who rushed the agreement stage, not to one who lacked vocabulary.

How do I get on the call list?

EVOTECH IT LLC is a licensed, insured low-voltage contractor with more than twenty years of Houston work behind it, rated 5.0 stars by the customers who have reviewed us. We would rather talk to you than read a form.

Ring (832) 359-2425 or write through the contact page. Tell us what masonry and metal-stud experience you have, whether you have somebody you regularly work alongside for heavy panels, what you drive, and which parts of the week you can actually commit to. If you have your own general liability coverage, say so up front.

Pay is agreed at interview and varies with scope and experience. We will not quote a figure here, because the honest answer depends on the kind of work you are taking and what you bring to it.

Frequently asked questions

A tenant wants a wall mount but the lease restricts drilling. What am I supposed to do?
Tell them the truth and let them decide. Explain what the mount requires, what the patch would look like, and what the reversible alternatives are. If they want to check with the leasing office first, that is a reschedule and not a lost job. What you must never do is drill on the assumption that it will not be noticed at move-out, because the person who hears about it afterwards is us.
How do you handle a seventy-five inch panel going up an outdoor staircase?
With two people, and we schedule it that way from the start. If you normally work alone, tell us during the interview and we will either pair you for those tickets or route them elsewhere. Nobody is expected to walk a large display up an exterior stair by themselves, and attempting it is the sort of thing that ends a working relationship rather than proving anything.
Is the paperwork for a shop different from a house?
Slightly. Commercial visits more often involve a landlord or centre management, occasionally a certificate of insurance on file, and sometimes a restriction on which hours work can happen. We sort those details before you are dispatched, but you are expected to respect them once on site – including where you park, which is enforced hard in these centres.
A previous installer did the work badly and the customer is upset. How should I handle it?
Fix what is in front of you and keep your opinion of the last person to yourself. Photograph the existing condition before you touch anything, tell us what you found, and carry out the remedy that was scoped. Running down another tradesman in a customer’s living room helps nobody and tends to escalate a straightforward repair into a complaint.
