TV Installer Jobs in Houston 77072 (Alief)
Alief runs on apartment blocks, single-storey brick houses and the independent businesses along Bellaire and Beechnut. The work is steady, the anchors are usually masonry, and a good share of your customers rent – which changes what you are allowed to do to a wall.
The job, described without the recruiting gloss
This is physical, repetitive, customer-facing work, and we would rather say it plainly than dress it up. A typical day in 77072 is three to six residential tickets inside a few square miles: apartment living rooms off Dairy Ashford and Wilcrest, single-storey brick houses in the subdivisions north and south of Beechnut, the occasional bedroom mount in a duplex.
Panels have grown and the difficulty grew with them. Sixty-five inches is now an ordinary request rather than a big one, and seventy-five is common. Getting one out of a vehicle, up an exterior apartment stair, through a doorway that turns immediately into a hallway, and onto a wall on your own is the real skill being hired for. Anybody can drill a hole. Handling glass in a tight room without marking a wall or a door casing is what takes years to get good at.
The tickets that come out of this ZIP most often:
- Flat and tilt mounts in occupied apartments, generally on the short wall of a small living room.
- Full-motion arms in bedrooms where the bed and the only available wall do not line up.
- Mounts above a masonry fireplace in the older single-family stock.
- Cord concealment kits, in-wall power runs and raceway on walls that may not be opened.
- Reinstalls after a move – the same family, a different unit, three streets away.
Drive time is short. Traffic is not. The Beechnut and Bellaire crossings load up hard at school release and again in the evening peak, and dispatch windows are built around that rather than pretending it does not happen.
Anchoring into Alief: block, brick veneer and the plastic plug problem
Apartment construction across this part of Houston leans on concrete block for demising walls and structural bays, with brick veneer outside and drywall furred over block inside. A wood stud in the middle of a living-room wall is the exception in 77072, not the default.
That has consequences an installer has to internalise:
- A hollow-cell block wall wants a sleeve or wedge anchor set into the web, sized so the expansion happens in solid material. A plastic plug driven into the face shell is not an anchor, it is a countdown.
- Brick veneer on the outside of a house is a facing, not structure. Hanging a heavy display on veneer without reaching what sits behind it is exactly why brackets come loose two summers later.
- Drywall furred over block leaves you a shallow cavity. Establish your depth before the bit goes in, or you will hit block with a bit meant for timber and ruin both at once.
- A masonry chimney breast carries the load comfortably, but it takes a hammer drill, the correct bit diameter, and patience about whether you are in mortar joint or brick face.
Without a hammer drill this route is not open to you yet. After the level it is the most-used tool on an Alief ticket, and there is no honest way around it on block.
We also expect you to know when to stop. An unexpected conduit, an outlet box that turns out to back onto the wall you are about to open, anything you cannot identify – those are stop-and-call moments. Nobody here has ever been penalised for phoning before drilling. The reverse has consequences.
When the person who owns the wall is not the person in the room
A large proportion of households in 77072 rent, and that shapes the job as much as the substrate does. The person pointing at the spot where the television should go may not have authority to let you open that wall, and quite often does not realise it.
What we expect from you on those tickets:
- Ask early and directly whether the home is rented, before anything comes out of the box.
- If it is, check the ticket notes confirm the landlord or property manager approved the work. If that confirmation is missing, call dispatch. Do not take a tenant’s assurance and start drilling.
- Offer the alternatives you genuinely have to hand: a floor stand, a shelf fixed to existing structure, adhesive-backed raceway instead of an in-wall run.
- Use repair-friendly technique. Fewer holes, correctly placed, beat a wall that ends up looking like a test panel.
Move-out season brings the mirror image of this work – take-downs, removal that leaves a patchable wall, and reinstalls at the new address. Those tickets are short and they stack well in a single afternoon, and installers who handle them cleanly get sent more of them.
Storefront displays along Bellaire and Beechnut
Bellaire Boulevard and Beechnut Street carry a dense run of independent businesses – restaurants, grocers, salons, phone and repair shops, small clinics, travel agencies. They buy displays for menu boards, waiting areas and monitoring, and they are a real slice of ticket flow in this ZIP.
These jobs reward different habits than apartment work. The owner is usually trading while you install, the ceiling may be open grid rather than drywall, and the run from the display back to a media closet or a recorder is often longer than anything in a house. Cable is expected to be dressed, supported and out of sight. A monitor behind a register showing a camera feed is a job that starts as television work and finishes as camera work, so being able to do both makes you far more useful on this corridor.
Communication counts double here. Plenty of owners along Bellaire speak English as a second language, and patient, unhurried explanation of what you are about to do to their wall is part of the job rather than an extra. Rushing somebody reads as disrespect, and it costs the relationship long before it costs the ticket.
What we verify, how you are paid and the first call
Assignments are subcontracted and offered one ticket at a time. You see the address, the panel size, the expected wall construction and the access notes before you accept, and you are free to turn any of them down. What we ask is that you honour the windows you do accept, because a customer who took time off work does not care why the vehicle never arrived.
Pay is settled in conversation, not on a web page. What it comes to depends on the scope you can handle and the experience behind you – whether you can be routed into cabling and camera work as well as displays, and what you already own. We will not publish a number that would be wrong for half the people reading it.
Ahead of a first ticket we check identity and right to work, active general liability cover in your name, a clean background check, and a short ride-along so we can see how you work. EVOTECH has been a licensed and insured low-voltage contractor on the west and southwest side of Houston for more than twenty years, and that record is the entire business.
Call (832) 359-2425 or use the contact form. Tell us how long you have been mounting, whether you own a hammer drill and a decent level, what you drive, and which days you can genuinely commit to.

Frequently asked questions
Most of my experience is apartments rather than houses. Is that a problem?
It is close to ideal for this ZIP. Multi-family is the bulk of the housing here, and somebody who already knows block walls, exterior stairs, narrow galley entries and residents watching over their shoulder needs very little bringing up to speed.
Do I need a truck, or is a car with a roof rack enough?
You need a vehicle that can carry an oversized panel flat and protected, with blankets and straps. A roof rack is not acceptable for glass. A van, an SUV with the seats down, or a covered pickup bed all work. What matters is that a screen arrives in the same condition it left in.
How are jobs scheduled around Beechnut and Bellaire traffic?
Windows are set with the school release and evening peaks factored in, and tickets are grouped geographically rather than scattered across the map. If you are running behind because of a crash on a main crossing, call dispatch early – we will warn the customer before they start wondering.
Can I be brought along on camera and network jobs, or do you only want people already experienced in them?
Both. Display mounting is the entry point, and installers who show clean workmanship and good judgement get offered work alongside our cabling and camera techs. Say in the first conversation that you want that direction, so we know to route you toward it.
Is the work steady year-round or does it dry up?
Residential volume rises around lease turnover and the run-up to major sporting events, and it never goes to nothing. Commercial tickets along the retail corridors even out the quieter weeks. We will not promise a fixed number of jobs per week, because that would be a number we cannot guarantee.
