TV Mount Subcontractor Jobs in Katy, TX 77450
EVOTECH IT LLC dispatches television mounting tickets to independent installers who work the 77450 side of Katy. This is the older half of the city – Nottingham Country, Kelliwood, Green Trails, Memorial Parkway, Williamsburg Colony – and a route through it is mostly retrofit work in houses that were finished long before anybody framed a media niche. If that is the work you are good at, read what follows before you call.
What the 77450 board is actually made of
Four kinds of ticket account for most of a week out here, and they ask for four different temperaments. An installer who is brilliant in an empty new-build and useless in a furnished 1988 living room will not last a month on this route.
Move-in and relocation work
The stretch of 77450 near Fry Road, Mason Road and the I-10 frontage turns over constantly because of the energy employers just east of here. Families arrive with the panel already unboxed, the truck still in the driveway, and no idea where the furniture is going. You are being asked to make a permanent decision in a room that is still in boxes. The useful skill is not drilling – it is getting the customer to sit in the chair they will actually sit in before you mark a single hole.
The upgrade in a room that already works
A household replaces a fifteen-year-old 50-inch on a swing arm with a 75, and the existing bracket, the existing lag positions and the existing outlet are all wrong. Removing old hardware cleanly, filling four oversized holes so they disappear under paint, and re-locating to different framing is half the job.
Leased houses and apartment units
A large share of this ZIP is rented. Those tickets come with a second decision-maker who is not in the room, and they are covered in their own section below.
Small business displays
Dental suites, insurance offices, a gym wall, a break-room television in one of the low-rise office parks off Highway 6. Usually daytime, usually simple brackets, usually a fussier requirement about where the cable is allowed to be visible.
What none of these are: a warehouse of identical jobs. If you want repetition, this is the wrong postcode.
Older Katy houses mean retrofit, not pre-wire
Most of the housing stock inside 77450 went up between the late seventies and the early two-thousands. That single fact drives nearly every complication you will meet.
| What you find | What it costs you if you miss it |
|---|---|
| No structured wiring panel anywhere in the house | There is no central closet to route back to. Every concealed run is a point-to-point fish, and the customer’s idea of where the equipment will live may have to change. |
| Original coax, sometimes older thin-gauge cable, terminated behind a sofa | Re-using it looks like a shortcut and produces a picture complaint two days later. Test before you trust it, and price a replacement run through dispatch rather than improvising. |
| Real clay brick and mortar joints on the fireplace, not cultured veneer | Brick is unforgiving of a dull bit and hopeless to patch. Anchoring into the mortar joint rather than the face is usually the right call, and it takes a bit you have actually kept sharp. |
| Wood-burning fireboxes that still get used | Panel height above a working firebox is a real conversation, not a preference. Measure mantel depth, ask whether they burn wood, and say so on the ticket if the customer overrules you. |
| Heavy wall texture and 1980s ceiling finishes | A flat mud patch on a knockdown wall reads as a scar. You match texture or you do not cut. Ceiling finishes in houses of this age are not ours to disturb at all – if a run cannot be made without cutting ceiling texture, stop and ring dispatch. |
| Partly decked attics, settled blown insulation, light-duty pull-down stairs | Walk a joist, not a ceiling. Anything overhead is a first-hour-of-the-day task from May onward. |
| Framing that predates anyone thinking about a television | Sixteen inches on centre is the theory. Chases, old chimney framing and remodel work move it. Confirm with two methods before you commit. |
The installers who do well here treat patching and finishing as part of mounting rather than somebody else’s trade. If you leave a customer with a hole and an apology, we hear about it.
Apartments, leases and the no-damage mount
You will be asked to drill someone else’s wall more often in 77450 than in most of the Katy ZIPs, because so much of this housing is leased. The rules we work to are simple and they are not optional.
- Establish authority at the door. Ask directly whether the customer owns the property. If they rent, the question is whether written permission exists, not whether they think it will be fine.
- No in-wall power relocation in a leased unit unless the property owner or management has approved it in writing and dispatch has it on the ticket. In someone else’s wall, a shortcut is a liability with your name on it.
- Photograph the wall before you touch it. Existing anchor holes, existing damage, the condition of the corner bead. Attach it to the ticket. That photo has ended more disputes than any conversation.
- Expect the community office. Several complexes want a contractor to sign in, want a certificate of insurance on file, and control the loading area and the lift. Twenty minutes in the leasing office at nine in the morning beats an hour of negotiation at eleven.
- Gates and parking. Gate codes come from the customer the night before. Parking a loaded van in a fire lane while you carry a 75-inch panel is how a good day acquires a citation.
Where a tenant wants the smallest possible footprint, say so honestly: a low-profile fixed plate on two studs leaves four repairable holes and no visible channel. That is usually the right answer, and it is a better conversation than discovering the lease terms afterwards.
The skills we check before you get a customer’s living room
We are not testing whether you own a drill. We are testing the handful of things that decide whether a finished wall in an occupied house looks professional.
| Skill | Why it decides a 77450 ticket |
|---|---|
| Reading a wall with two independent methods | Older framing lies. A scan plus a confirming probe in a spot that will be hidden is the standard. |
| Height and tilt from the seated position | Above a mantel in a room with a fixed sofa, a few degrees of tilt is the whole difference between comfortable and craned necks. |
| Patching and texture matching | Removing old hardware is half of the upgrade work here. |
| Fishing a wall with fire blocking and settled insulation | Glow rods, a flexible bit and patience; not a bigger hole. |
| Coax and HDMI termination and testing | Nothing leaves proved by the phrase ‘it should work’. |
| Knowing when to stop | Aluminium-framed accent walls, unknown ceiling finishes, a bracket that is wrong for the panel, a wall that is clearly hiding a gas line. The right move is a phone call, and it is never held against you. |
What has to be on file before a ticket is dispatched
EVOTECH IT LLC is a licensed and insured low-voltage contractor working this part of Texas since around 2004, rated 5.0 stars. Everything below exists so that record survives contact with a stranger’s living room.
- General liability cover in the name of the business you invoice under, with a certificate listing EVOTECH IT LLC as certificate holder.
- Insurance on the vehicle you work out of.
- A cleared background check. You are being let into homes with children and pets in them.
- Low-voltage cabling work performed on our behalf falls under our licence and our specification. Mounting a bracket does not; pulling and terminating cable does.
- Tickets stay with the individual we vetted. An unchecked helper sent in your place ends it.
- Closing a ticket includes a clear photograph of the completed installation.
How to apply for 77450 work
Start with a phone call to (832) 359-2425 and ask for installer intake, or write to us through the contact page. What is worth telling us:
- Your mounting background, described by the kinds of wall you have worked rather than a job title
- Whether drywall repair, sanding and texture matching are things you handle yourself
- The ladders, testers, masonry bits and fishing kit riding in the vehicle right now
- Any cabling experience, and the sort of runs you have made
- Where you stand today on liability cover
- Which days and hours you are willing to be held to
What the work pays is settled in conversation, once we both understand which tickets you would be taking. Fixing a plate to two studs in a spare bedroom and retrofitting a brick chimney with concealed cable are separated by several hours of skilled labour, so one advertised figure covering both would tell you nothing useful. Where it looks promising, your opening ticket runs alongside an experienced installer and the two of you review the result before you go solo.
