TV Installation Subcontractor Work in Katy, TX
EVOTECH IT LLC dispatches television mounting and display work to independent installers across 77494. If you already own the ladders, the van and the stud finder, this page explains what the tickets look like out here and what has to be in place before you take one.
What a dispatched day in 77494 actually looks like
Katy is not one job repeated. A single route through 77494 can put you on three different problems before lunch, and the installers who last out here are the ones who can read a wall in the first ninety seconds of walking into a room.
The eight o’clock is usually the heavy one: a 75-inch panel going over a cast-stone fireplace in a two-storey great room off Cinco Ranch Boulevard. The homeowner has already bought a full-motion arm and assumes the recess above the mantel will swallow it. Before a single hole gets drilled you are working out where the firebox chase runs, whether there is a gas line in it, how far the stone sits proud of the drywall, and whether that arm will still clear the mantel at full extension.
Mid-morning tends to be a game room or media room — second floor, engineered floor trusses, and a request to get the cable box, the console and the receiver out of sight. That means a rated in-wall power relocation kit, a low-voltage plate above and below, and fish rods through a bay that may or may not have a fire block in it.
The afternoon is frequently the simplest work and the best-tempered customer: a bedroom or home-office panel on a fixed low-profile bracket, forty-five minutes, often followed by the sentence every installer likes to hear — could you look at the one upstairs while you are here. You send that back through dispatch for pricing rather than arranging it privately, and it becomes another line on the same ticket.
Between those three stops you will also drive. 77494 is one of the largest residential ZIP codes in Texas, and Firethorne to Seven Meadows at four in the afternoon is a leg, not a hop. Route planning is part of the craft here.
The walls, niches and fireplaces you will be mounting into
Nearly everything in this ZIP was built after the late nineties: slab foundations, framed interior walls, drywall that cuts and patches cleanly. It also means a set of very specific builder habits.
- Studs at sixteen inches on centre, and not always where the screen wants to sit. Framing shifts around a fireplace chase, and the pair you need may be six or eight inches off-centre from the panel. A bracket rated for that offset — or proper backing — is the difference between a solid job and a slow lean.
- Media niches sized for the last television. Builders framed a great many of these for a 55-inch screen. Customers come home with a 75. Part of the work is saying what will and will not fit before anything leaves the box.
- Pre-wire plates at the wrong height. Low-voltage boxes are commonly set around thirty inches off the floor, which suits a console and not a mount at eye level. Expect to add an old-work box higher up and route down behind the wall.
- Cast stone, stacked stone and cultured veneer. These drill nothing like brick. Dry bits chew them and chip the face; a masonry bit, water and patience do not.
- Attics that punish you after nine in the morning. Radiant-barrier decking, blown-in insulation and 140-degree air by mid-June. If a run has to go up and over, that is a first-hour task.
- Structured wiring panels. Almost every one of these homes has a media panel in a closet or the garage. Find it, label what you add to it, and close it up tidy.
The kit that separates a finished job from a callback
We do not supply tools. What is on your truck at eight in the morning is what the customer gets, and in a ZIP this size a run to the nearest supply house is time you never get back.
| What you carry | Why it matters on a 77494 ticket |
|---|---|
| Stud finder with AC and metal detection | Great-room walls hide gas chases, romex and strapping near the firebox |
| Six-foot and eight-foot fibreglass steps | Two-storey great rooms and stairwell walls are routine here |
| Impact driver, drill, hex sockets, quality lag bolts | Undersized or stripped lags are the leading cause of a mount coming back |
| Four-foot level plus a magnetic torpedo | A panel one degree out reads as crooked from the sofa |
| Masonry and diamond bits, water bottle | Cast-stone, cultured stone and tile surrounds |
| Glow rods, flexible bits, magnet fish set | In-wall routing through insulated and fire-blocked bays |
| Code-compliant in-wall power relocation kits | An extension lead inside a wall cavity is never acceptable on our work |
| Old-work boxes, low-voltage brackets, wall plates | Adding an outlet position above a mantel |
| Non-contact voltage tester and a cable tester | Proving what is live before you cut and proving a run works before you leave |
| Drop cloths, shop vac, painter’s tape, touch-up filler | The room leaves cleaner than you found it — that part is not optional |
Consumables are yours. Brackets are usually customer-supplied in this market, but carry a small stock of decent mounts and leads anyway: a homeowner who bought a bracket that will not span their studs still wants a television on the wall that afternoon.
How the work reaches you and how a week gets built
Tickets originate with EVOTECH’s own customers — homeowners, builders’ clients and small businesses who rang (832) 359-2425 or booked through the site. Nothing is sold to you as a lead and you are not bidding against four other people for it.
A ticket arrives with the scope as the customer described it, the address, the panel size, whatever we know about the wall, any photographs they sent, and the arrival window. You accept or you pass, and passing costs you nothing but that ticket. Once you accept, it is yours end to end — including the phone call if something is not right a week later.
We ask for a confirmation call or text the evening before, for one Katy-specific reason above all others: a large share of this ZIP sits behind gates. Several Cinco Ranch, Firethorne and Tamarron-side sections have some form of controlled entry, and a gate code obtained the night before is worth half an hour of your morning. Where an HOA wants a contractor badge, that is flagged at dispatch.
Availability is yours to set. Tell us the days and hours you will genuinely work and we route to them, because a subcontractor who cancels at ten in the morning costs a customer far more than one who said on Sunday that he only runs Tuesday to Saturday.
Anything that grows on site — a second panel, a soundbar, cable to another room — goes back through dispatch for pricing before you start, so the customer sees one written number from one company.
What has to be in place before your first ticket
EVOTECH IT LLC has been doing low-voltage work in this part of Texas since around 2004, is a licensed and insured low-voltage contractor and holds a 5.0 star rating. When you walk into a Katy living room on one of our tickets you are carrying that, and the list below exists because of it.
- General liability insurance in your own business name, with a certificate naming EVOTECH IT LLC as certificate holder, on file before anything dispatches.
- Vehicle insurance on whatever you work out of.
- Licensing where the task requires it. Hanging a bracket is hanging a bracket. The moment a job involves pulling, terminating or installing low-voltage cabling on our behalf, it falls under our licence and our specification, and you work to it.
- A cleared background check. Not negotiable — you are being let into people’s homes, usually with children and pets in them.
- No re-subcontracting. The person we vetted is the person who shows up. An unvetted helper sent in your place ends the arrangement.
- Workmanship you would accept in your own living room: level, correct fasteners into framing or proper backing, nothing hanging in free air, furniture put back, floor vacuumed, and a photograph of the finished wall attached to the ticket.
We would rather lose a Saturday’s capacity than send somebody who does not meet that list.
How to apply
Call (832) 359-2425 and ask for subcontractor intake, or send the same details through our contact page. Keep it short and factual:
- How long you have been mounting, and roughly how many panels a month you do now
- The ZIP codes you will genuinely drive — including whether the far west side of 77494 is inside or outside your line
- What your vehicle carries: ladders, drills, fish rods, in-wall power kits
- Whether you pull and terminate low-voltage cable, and what you have run
- Whether general liability is already in force or you are arranging it
- The days and hours you will commit to
Compensation is discussed at the interview and depends on the scope of work and your experience. A straight bedroom mount and a stone-fireplace job with in-wall power and cable relocation are not the same work, and we are not going to pretend otherwise on a web page. If the fit looks right we pair you with a lead installer for a first ticket, look at the finished wall together, and go from there.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need my own van, ladders and tools for Katy tickets?
Yes. This is subcontract work rather than an apprenticeship, so you arrive complete. At minimum that means a vehicle you can carry two ladders in, cordless drill and impact driver, a reliable stud finder, levels, masonry bits and fish rods. We do not lend tools and we do not stage material for you at a customer’s house.
Is this a job or an independent contract?
It is independent subcontract work on a 1099 basis. You set your own availability, you decide how the work is performed, and you are responsible for your own taxes, insurance and equipment. Nothing here is an offer of employment, and accepting a ticket does not create one.
What happens if a television or a wall gets damaged?
You carry general liability for precisely this. What matters to us is the reporting: tell dispatch the same day, tell the customer the truth, and let us handle the repair conversation properly. Installers who hide a cracked panel or a torn corner bead do not get another ticket.
How many jobs a day can I expect in 77494?
We do not promise a number and anyone who does is guessing. A bedroom low-profile can be finished inside an hour; a stone fireplace with power relocation and a cable pull holds you most of a morning.
Who supplies the mount and the hardware?
In this market the customer usually buys the television and very often the bracket as well. Consumables, fasteners, patch material and your own stock of spare mounts and leads are yours. If a customer-supplied bracket is wrong for the wall, ring dispatch before you improvise.
