TV Installation Subcontractor Positions in Katy 77449

This is the ZIP code closest to home for EVOTECH IT LLC, and it is where nearly every new subcontractor on our board starts. Cimarron, Williamsburg, Morton Ranch, Mayde Creek and the apartment communities along Fry and Morton pack an enormous number of front doors into a few square miles, which means a new installer can be checked out, brought up to speed and kept busy without spending the day driving. Here is what we look at, and where the work can go afterwards.

Where new subs startVery high address densityRepeating builder plansRoute into wider low-voltage workOwn tools and transport

Why a new subcontractor almost always starts in 77449

Two reasons, and neither is sentimental. The first is density: this is one of the most heavily populated postal areas in Texas, and the addresses sit so close together that a first week here produces more finished tickets than a first week anywhere else we cover. The second is proximity — we are based in Katy, so if something goes sideways on your third job, help is minutes away rather than an hour of freeway.

The housing works in your favour too. The subdivisions off Fry Road, Greenhouse, Morton Road and Franz were built out in waves by a limited number of builders working from a limited number of floor plans. Once you have opened three houses in Cimarron or Morton Ranch, the fourth stops surprising you: the same chase, the same receptacle position, the same attic access in the same corner of the same hallway.

Mixed in with the houses are large apartment communities and a substantial stock of leased single-family homes. Those tickets run differently — permission first, then the wall — and you will meet both kinds in your first fortnight.

What we actually check before your first ticket

There is no written test and no certificate we ask you to buy. We are looking for evidence of five things, and a short conversation usually settles all five.

  1. You can find structure and prove it. Not “the stud finder beeped.” Knowing how to confirm with a small pilot, what a magnet tells you, and why a reading behind a thick tile or a metal-lath surround cannot be trusted.
  2. You know what you are allowed to do. Low-voltage cable, brackets, listed in-wall power kits, terminations — yours. Circuits, receptacles and panels — not yours, ever, and a licensed electrician handles them.
  3. You measure for people, not for walls. Screen centre is set from where the family sits, which is not the same as centring it in the available space.
  4. You can dress cable so it disappears. The finish is the product. A solid mount with a visible loop of HDMI is a complaint waiting to be filed.
  5. You communicate before you improvise. The instinct to call the office when a job changes is the single strongest predictor of whether a subcontractor is still on this board in a year.

Nobody expects a first-week installer to know every builder’s quirk in Katy. We do expect you to stop when you are unsure rather than find out with a hole saw.

The kit list, and the three things people turn up without

You bring your own tools, your own transport and your own consumables. A workable 77449 kit looks roughly like this:

  • Drill and impact driver with charged spares, plus a rotary hammer for masonry surrounds.
  • Stud finder, magnet, small torch, inspection mirror.
  • A long level and a short one, laser optional but genuinely useful in a wide room.
  • Step ladder and a multi-position ladder — a surprising number of these two-storey entries and patio columns need the second one.
  • Fish tape, glow rods, cable, low-voltage brackets, plates, grommets, ties.
  • Anchors and lags in depth, plus spare bracket bolt kits for the customer-supplied mounts that arrive short.
  • Drop cloths, a vacuum, filler and a clean way to leave a room.

The three items people most often arrive without, in order: a vacuum, spare bracket bolts, and floor protection. Every one of those turns a good install into an apology.

Where the work goes after displays

Display work is the entry point, not the ceiling. EVOTECH IT LLC is a licensed and insured low-voltage contractor covering Katy, Houston, Sugar Land, Richmond, Fulshear and Cypress, and the same subcontractors who prove reliable on television tickets get offered the wider work as it comes up in their area:

  • Structured network cabling — data drops, terminations, patching, testing.
  • Camera installation — exterior runs, recorder placement, sightline work.
  • Audio: in-wall and in-ceiling speakers, patio audio, soundbar and receiver integration.
  • Small commercial tickets in the retail and office space along the I-10 and Grand Parkway corridors.

That progression is earned rather than granted, and it moves at the pace of your demonstrated work. Nobody is handed a camera job because they asked for one; they are handed it because thirty display tickets came back clean, on time and documented.

Cover, compensation and how to apply

Before a first dispatch we need a general liability certificate in your business name, business-use cover on your vehicle, a signed W-9, photo identification and consent for a background check. You are engaged as an independent business, so you set your own availability, use your own tools and invoice under your own name.

You do not need to have been a subcontractor before. You do need to understand what the word means: no hourly clock, no supplied van, no company tools, and full responsibility for your own cover and taxes. People who expect a job with a different label are not happy here, and it is kinder to say so on the page than at the interview.

Compensation is discussed at interview and depends on the scope of the work and the experience you bring. We are not going to publish a figure, because a straightforward bedroom mount in Mayde Creek and a full media wall with a concealed run are not the same piece of work.

Applications go through (832) 359-2425 or the contact form. Tell us what you have installed, what vehicle you run, whether you have cover in place already, and which days of the week you actually want to work.

Frequently asked questions

I have hung plenty of televisions but never worked as a subcontractor. Is that a problem?
No, and 77449 is exactly where we start people in that position. What matters is that you understand you are being engaged as an independent business, with your own cover, tools and tax responsibility, rather than taken on as an employee.
Is there any training or a ride-along?
Early tickets are chosen to be straightforward and you are close to us geographically, so questions get answered quickly. It is not a formal apprenticeship — you are expected to already have the hand skills.
Where exactly does my work stop and an electrician’s begin?
You handle low-voltage cable, brackets, terminations and listed in-wall power relocation kits. New circuits, moving receptacles and anything inside an electrical panel go to a licensed electrician that we bring in.
Can I work 77449 only, or will I be sent across the whole service area?
You can stay inside this ZIP and stay busy — that is the advantage of the density here. Work further out is offered, never imposed.
How is compensation decided?
At interview, based on the scope of the tickets you take and your experience. It is not a published rate and it varies with the kind of work.
Do I need an LLC, or will a sole proprietorship do?
Either is acceptable. What we need is a consistent business name on your insurance certificate, your W-9 and your invoices.
Do you supply any tools or materials at all?
Brackets we have specified for a customer arrive with the ticket. Everything else — tools, ladders, consumables — is yours.

New to subcontracting but not new to the tools?

77449 is where we find that out. Call (832) 359-2425 or use the contact form, and tell us what you have installed and what you drive.
