TV Mount Subcontractor Jobs in Houston, TX 77027
EVOTECH IT LLC keeps a short list of independent TV mount installers for Houston’s 77027 — Greenway Plaza, Afton Oaks, Highland Village and the blocks running toward Post Oak. This is inner-loop work: concierge desks, certificates of insurance, booked freight elevators and concrete you cannot fish. If you own your tools, carry general liability in your own name and can hold a straight conversation with a building engineer, we would like to hear from you. Compensation is discussed at interview, depending on scope and experience.
What a 77027 day on the truck actually looks like
Fewer stops than a suburban route, and every stop takes longer. That is the trade in this ZIP. A single condo install above Greenway Plaza can consume a morning once you count the dock, the sign-in log, the elevator reservation and the walk from a service corridor to unit 1804.
Most addresses here are occupied, furnished and lived in while you work. The client is often on a call in the next room, so the expectation is quiet, contained work — drop cloths down before the carton is opened, shoe covers on, a vacuum running as you go rather than a sweep at the end. Cardboard and foam leave with you; the building’s trash chute is not a construction dumpster and management notices when a vendor treats it like one.
- Confirm the mount height against seated eye level and get a nod before a single hole is made.
- Photograph the wall before you start — existing dings in a luxury unit become your problem otherwise.
- Protect stone, wood and carpet finishes; a dropped bracket on a marble sill is an expensive five seconds.
- Leave the cable path serviceable. Someone will change that soundbar in two years.
The Afton Oaks and Highland Village houses run differently — driveway parking, a garage to stage in, no front desk to satisfy — but the finish standard is identical, because these are the same clients who will call the office if a plate is crooked.
Concierge desks, COIs and freight elevator windows
The towers and mid-rises around Greenway and Post Oak run a vendor process, and it is not negotiable at the door. Property management wants a current certificate of insurance naming them as additional insured, filed ahead of the appointment, and they check the expiry date. Installers who keep their agent on speed dial get cleared in a day; installers who do not lose the ticket.
The elevator is the schedule. Many buildings reserve the freight car in fixed weekday windows and pad it before you arrive. Miss the window and the whole appointment moves, regardless of whose fault it was.
Other realities worth knowing before you accept an inner-loop ticket:
- Clearance bars. Garage entrances here stop tall vehicles cold. A ladder rack or a high-roof van means the loading dock, the service drive or street parking — plan it, do not discover it.
- Service entrance only. Vendors rarely come through the main lobby with gear. Find the dock, sign the log, take the badge.
- Escort rules. A few buildings walk you to the unit and back. Build that time into your day.
- Two people, two names. If a helper is coming, the building log and the elevator booking need to know in advance.
Post-tension slabs, metal stud and 1950s Afton Oaks framing
Inner-loop residential towers are concrete structures. The slabs are frequently post-tensioned, and the tendons inside them are invisible from the surface. Drilling into a structural slab or a shear wall is never a field decision here — a cut tendon is a structural event, not a patch job. If a client points at concrete, you stop and call.
What you can usually work with in a tower is the interior partition: light-gauge metal stud behind gypsum. That changes your approach. A stud finder that only reads density will mislead you; you want one that handles metal, and you want a toggle strategy rated for the panel rather than a lag screw looking for wood that is not there. There is no attic above you and no joist bay to fish, so concealment is either inside an interior partition or a paintable surface raceway agreed with the client before you open a box.
Cross Buffalo Speedway into Afton Oaks and the building stock flips to 1950s and 1960s single-story ranch — wood framing on sixteen-inch centers, plaster in the older untouched houses, real masonry fireplaces, and an increasing number of tear-down replacements with engineered framing and conduit already run to the media wall. The same street can hand you a 1957 plaster wall and a 2021 new-build in consecutive appointments, so carry hardware for both.
The kit you’re expected to show up with
We do not supply tools. A sub who arrives short is a sub who reschedules, and rescheduling in a building with a booked elevator is expensive for everyone. The working minimum for this ZIP:
| Category | What it has to cover here |
|---|---|
| Detection | Stud finder that reads metal framing and depth; a rare-earth magnet as a sanity check |
| Drilling | Impact driver plus a rotary hammer with SDS bits for the Afton Oaks masonry fireplaces |
| Anchoring | Toggles and snap-toggles rated for large panels on metal stud; sleeve anchors for brick |
| Leveling | A laser and a long spirit level — a four-foot wall plate that reads level on a phone app is not level |
| Concealment | Fish tape, glow rods, in-wall rated HDMI in several lengths, white and paintable raceway stock |
| Access | A compact ladder that fits inside a freight elevator with you and the panel |
| Cleanliness | Drop cloths, shoe covers, moving blankets, a shop vac that actually has suction |
Presentation belongs on that list too. You will hand your keys to a valet at some of these addresses. A clean vehicle, a clean shirt and a phone you answer on the second ring are part of the qualification, not a bonus.
Insurance, licensing and what we verify before your first ticket
You subcontract to EVOTECH as an independent business, not as an employee. That means a W-9 on file, your own schedule to accept or decline from, and you invoice us for completed work. Before a first ticket goes out we verify:
- General liability in your own name, current, with the ability to have certificates issued naming a property management company as additional insured. In 77027 you will be asked for this repeatedly.
- A valid Texas driver’s license and insured vehicle you can rely on.
- Your experience, in specifics — panel sizes you have handled, concealment methods you use, buildings you have already worked in.
On scope: any part of a job that crosses into line voltage or alarm systems is handled under EVOTECH’s own licensed scope by our licensed people, not improvised on site by a mounting sub. EVOTECH IT LLC is a licensed and insured low-voltage contractor with more than twenty years in this market and a 5.0-star rating, and the standard on a ticket is ours to defend. Exact documentation requirements are confirmed with you at interview.
How tickets reach you and how the schedule is built
A ticket arrives by phone or text with the address, the building, the unit, the access notes, the reserved elevator window if there is one, the panel size, the bracket type and exactly what the client has agreed to. You accept it or you decline it. Declining is completely normal and costs you nothing; accepting and then going quiet is the one thing that removes an installer from the list.
Arrival windows in this ZIP are tighter than in the suburbs because a reserved elevator does not wait. If traffic on the Southwest Freeway is going to put you outside the window, the useful call is the one you make at 8:40, not at 9:30.
Volume is honest rather than promised: it moves with the season and with how many buildings already have your paperwork on file. Installers who keep certificates current and get approved into more properties see steadier tickets than installers who do not, and we will not quote you a number of jobs per week at the start. Compensation is discussed at interview, depending on scope and experience. To apply, call (832) 359-2425 or use the contact page and say you are applying to subcontract in 77027.
