TV Hanging Technician Jobs in Katy, TX 77492

77492 is a Katy box-mail code, so there is no subdivision to profile and no housing stock to describe. What there is, is a standard. This page sets out precisely what a hanging technician has to be able to do, own and judge before EVOTECH IT LLC hands over a customer’s address anywhere in the Katy service area.

Why this opening is filed under a box code

A few Katy ZIP codes exist purely for post office box and business mail and carry no residential routes at all. This is one, which makes it a poor place to write about fireplaces and framing. So this listing inverts the usual format and describes the technician instead of the territory.

That turns out to be the more honest way round, because skill travels and geography does not. Somebody who reads a wall correctly, selects the right fastener and leaves a room clean is worth exactly the same on the Fort Bend side of Katy as on the Hockley side. What follows is the checklist we genuinely hire against.

Five things you have to do without being watched

  1. Find structure, then prove it. A meter reading is a hypothesis. Confirming it with a fine bit, a rare-earth magnet or an edge-to-edge scan before the lag goes in is the actual work.
  2. Match hardware to load. Screen weight, VESA pattern, arm extension and the leverage that arm generates at full stretch — all settled before the bracket leaves its box.
  3. Set level and keep it level. Anything eyeballed against a ceiling line in a house that has settled will read as crooked from the sofa, and the sofa holds the only opinion that matters.
  4. Move cable without wrecking finish. In-wall where construction and code allow it, painted raceway where they do not, and the straightforwardness to tell the customer which one their wall is getting.
  5. Hand the room back better than the ticket demanded. Dust contained at the hole, offcuts gone, remote paired, inputs labelled, and an owner who has been shown how it works.

None of that is exotic. All five of them separate the technicians we keep calling from the ones we quietly stop calling.

Substrate, fastener, and the judgement in between

Katy spans a wide range of construction ages, so a single anchoring habit applied everywhere will eventually fail somewhere expensive. This is the short version of what we expect you to recognise on sight.

What you are drilling intoWhat belongs thereHow it goes wrong
Wood stud behind drywallStructural lag screws with full bite into the stud, washers where the plate specifies themCatching the edge of the stud and calling it a hit
Metal stud partitionA rated toggle system, or a backer plate spanning several studsWood lags in light-gauge steel, which will pull straight through
Solid brick or full masonryHammer drill and correctly sized sleeve anchors set into the brick bodyAnchoring into mortar joints because they drill more easily
Tile or stone over backerDiamond bit, low speed, water or vacuum control, anchor landing in what sits behind the veneerAn impact driver and a masonry bit, then a cracked tile nobody can match
Concrete column or slab faceRotary hammer with rated wedge or sleeve anchors — and written building approval firstAny unapproved penetration into a post-tensioned element
Plaster over wood lathPilot cleanly through the plaster, then a structural fastener into the framing behind itDriving hard and blowing the plaster keys out around the hole
Standing rule: if you cannot identify what you are in, you stop and find out. No television in this company’s history has ever been improved by a guess.

What is in your truck before the first assignment

Mounts and materials are supplied by us on the tickets where we are supplying them. Hand tools, access equipment and consumables are yours, and we do look at them.

CategoryWhat we expect to see
AccessA step ladder plus an extension or multi-position ladder, correctly rated and not repaired with tape
DetectionA stud finder you actually trust, a rare-earth magnet, and a non-contact voltage tester
DrillingCordless drill and impact driver, a hammer drill, and a masonry and diamond bit range
LevellingTorpedo and longer spirit levels; a laser earns its place on wide brackets
FixingsA structural lag assortment, rated toggles, washers, and the driver bits to suit
CableFish tape or glow rods, low-voltage mounting brackets, raceway, cutters and a working HDMI tester
Site careDrop cloths, shoe covers, a small vacuum, dust capture at the hole, and touch-up filler

That last row matters more than applicants expect. A flawless install in a room with drywall dust ground into a rug gets remembered as a bad job.

Where hanging ends and low-voltage work begins

Hanging a panel is not electrical work, and that boundary is not decorative. Running a low-voltage cable inside a wall sits in scope. Adding a new power outlet behind the screen does not, and we never ask a technician to blur the difference.

The common and correct answer is a recessed media plate paired with a code-compliant in-wall power relocation kit, fitted to the manufacturer’s instructions. Where the customer wants a genuine new circuit or a new receptacle, that is an electrician’s job and it gets scheduled as one. Staying inside our lane is a large part of why the licence is still intact after twenty years.

Technicians who also pull structured cable, coax or camera drops are more useful to us than those who only mount, and those skills broaden a board quickly. If you have not got them yet, this is a reasonable place to acquire them.

Where this trade goes after the first year

Mounting is a doorway into low-voltage contracting rather than a ceiling. People who entered the trade with a drill and a bracket and stuck with it generally move along one of a few routes.

  • Whole-home visits — several displays, distributed audio, a tidied rack and device configuration in a single appointment.
  • Structured cabling — pulling, terminating and testing data runs, which rewards patience rather than pace.
  • Cameras and access control — a natural step for anyone already at ease on a ladder with a drill and a cable path.
  • Light commercial — conference displays, menu boards and break rooms, with the scheduling discipline those bring with them.

The price of that progression is a willingness to be assessed, corrected and taught something you were convinced you already knew.

Putting your name forward

Telephone (832) 359-2425 or write through the contact page. Work down the list above honestly: what you can do unsupervised, what you own, what you have never touched. A short truthful message gets a call back sooner than a long one claiming everything.

What you earn is worked out in the interview against the scope you are willing to carry and the depth of experience behind it, so arrive ready to describe your actual work rather than a job title.

Frequently asked questions

I have never done this professionally. Is there a way in?
Yes, though not straight into a customer’s living room. It begins as a second pair of hands on large-panel and concealment jobs, where you carry, hold, route and watch. How fast that becomes your own ticket depends on how well you take correction, not on how many sets you have hung at home.
Are there certifications you want to see?
None are mandatory for hanging work. Low-voltage or structured-cabling training, a ladder or lift safety card, or manufacturer courses on mounting systems all shorten the conversation. What gets assessed is a live install, because paperwork tells us nothing about how somebody treats a wall.
Is a van or truck mandatory?
You need a vehicle that carries ladders safely and legally and keeps customer equipment dry and secure. A properly racked pickup and a cargo van both qualify. Ladders lashed across a sedan roof with ratchet straps do not, and that is a hard line rather than a preference.
How do you want tile, stone and brick handled?
Slowly, with the correct bit and the correct drill mode. A diamond bit on tile, a hammer drill into the body of a brick rather than its mortar, and a clear plan for where the anchor finally lands behind the veneer. If a stone fireplace is the only wall on offer and you are not confident, we send somebody who is.
Do you standardise on particular mount brands?
We specify by load rating and application rather than loyalty to a badge. Where the hardware is ours it will be rated well clear of the panel weight. Where the customer supplied it, you inspect it, and if the plate or the fixings are wrong for that screen you say so before it goes near the wall.
Is there a background check?
Yes, for everybody, with no exemption for experience or personal referral. We are releasing addresses where families live. Anyone uneasy about that stage is not really suited to residential work at all, rather than just unsuited to us.

Can you do all five of those unsupervised?

Then we should be talking. Call (832) 359-2425 or send a short, honest summary of your experience through the contact form.
