Adding installers — northwest Houston

TV Hanging Technician Jobs in Houston, TX 77095

Copperfield and the streets running off Barker Cypress, Queenston and West Road up toward the 290 corridor. Most of these houses went up between about 1980 and the early 2000s to a short list of builder plans, and once you can read where the builder left a path, a display that looks like a half-day turns into an hour and a quarter.

Where the cable actually travels in a two-storey slab house

Nothing here sits on piers. These are slab-on-grade houses, which removes the easy option entirely: there is no underfloor space, so every concealed run goes up into the attic, sideways through a wall cavity, or along the garage.

Downstairs, the usual answer is a straight drop inside the wall from the mount plate to a low-voltage bracket behind the console — quick when the bay is clear, slow when the builder ran a brace, a duct boot or a return through it. Upstairs rooms are often easier, because the attic is directly overhead and a single hole in the top plate does the work.

The awkward case, and the one that separates people, is a first-floor room with a media cabinet on the opposite wall. That is an attic trip, a wall cavity, and usually a fire block at the ceiling line that nobody can see and everybody hits. Glow rods, a magnet set and patience beat force every time; a blind drill through a plate is how somebody finds a water line.

Two habits we expect on every job: keep signal cable off a parallel run of house wiring where you have the choice, and use in-wall rated cable for anything concealed. Long runs behind a wall are not the place to discover that a bargain cable will not carry the resolution the customer just paid for.

The attic is the difference between a one-hour job and a four-hour one

Many of the plans in this part of northwest Houston give you a walk-in attic over the garage, decking near the pull-down, and then blown insulation over open joists for everything beyond it. Beyond the decking it is truss webbing, ductwork and careful footing.

What that means in practice:

  • Know where your weight is. Insulation hides the joist line. Knee boards, a headlamp and a slow pace beat a foot through a bedroom ceiling, which costs more than the job earns.
  • Trusses do not let you walk a straight line. The shortest route on paper is rarely the route that exists, and adding twelve feet of cable is cheaper than cutting a web.
  • Summer is real. From roughly June to September this space is punishing. Work it in short passes, take water up with you, and plan the trip before you go rather than making three of them.
  • Newer sections have radiant barrier. It changes what your phone and your light do up there more than it changes the work.

When there is genuinely no path, say so. A neat surface raceway painted to the wall is an honest result; an hour of destructive exploration in somebody’s ceiling is not.

What has to be in the vehicle before we send you an address

This is an independent contractor role, so the kit is yours. The list below is not aspirational — it is roughly what a normal week on this route consumes.

CategoryWhat we expect to see
LocatingA stud finder you actually trust, plus a second method — a rare-earth magnet and a fine bit — because one method alone is a guess
DrillingCordless drill and impact driver with charged spares, plus a rotary hammer and masonry bits for brick and stone
LevellingTorpedo level and a laser you can trust across a wide plate
FishingGlow rods, fish tape, magnets, and enough in-wall rated cable in useful lengths
AccessA step ladder and a taller ladder; attic-safe footing; a headlamp rather than a phone torch
FixingsLag stock, toggles, masonry anchors, plates and brackets, cable management
Leaving it cleanDrop cloths, a vacuum, patch and touch-up, and a bin bag that leaves with you
TransportA vehicle a large boxed panel fits into flat, with blankets, and space for the old set if the customer asks

Mounts and brackets are usually supplied by the customer or specified through us on the booking. You are not expected to stock inventory; you are expected to arrive able to complete what the ticket describes.

Covered patios are close to a separate trade out here

Outdoor kitchens and covered patios were added to a lot of these houses over the last fifteen years, and with them a steady stream of patio display requests. They look like indoor jobs and behave nothing like them.

The things that come up again and again: whether the set is actually weather-rated or an indoor panel someone intends to put under a roof; whether the fixing is going into a brick column, a timber post or a soffit that will not hold anything; what wind does to an articulating arm on an open-sided patio; and stainless or coated hardware, because plain steel out here shows what it thinks of the humidity within a season.

Then there is glare. A screen on a west-facing patio at six in the evening is a conversation worth having on the first visit, not a callback.

Power is the hard boundary. Signal cable, in-wall rated runs, plates and conduit for low-voltage work are ours. Adding or moving a receptacle is electrical work, and it goes to a licensed electrician through the office — never solved on the spot because the customer offered.

Requirements, dispatch and how to apply

EVOTECH IT LLC holds a low-voltage contractor licence, carries insurance, and has been installing in this part of Texas since roughly 2004, with a five-star rating behind it. Everybody on this roster works independently, holds liability cover in their own name, clears a background check, and is walked into the work on live jobs beside somebody experienced before taking a ticket alone.

Dispatch here tends to cluster. Copperfield and the subdivisions around it are dense enough that a good day is several addresses a few minutes apart rather than a crossing of the county, and weekends carry the heaviest volume. At interview we will describe the current weekly load as it actually is, rather than implying a calendar that is fuller than the truth.

To put your name in, ring (832) 359-2425 or use the contact form. Say what you have mounted, what you own, what you drive and when you can work. Rates are settled when we meet, weighed against what the assignments demand and how experienced you already are.

Frequently asked questions

Which tools must I own, and which does EVOTECH supply?

The tools are yours — locating, drilling, levelling, fishing, ladders, fixings and clean-up. What comes from us is the work itself: the customer, the booking, the scope and the site notes. Mounts and brackets are normally the customer’s or specified on the ticket, so you are not carrying stock.

A lot of these living rooms have a corner fireplace. Is that an automatic refusal?

No, but it is a design conversation before it is a drilling one. Corner placements change the framing you are fixing into, the swing you need from the arm and the cable route, and they often make a different wall the better answer. Explain the options, get agreement, then drill.

How bad is attic work here in the summer, honestly?

Bad. June through September the attic is the hardest part of the day, and anyone who tells you otherwise has not done it. The way through it is preparation — plan the run before you climb, carry what you need in one trip, take water, and work in short passes.

Do you supply the mount, or does the customer buy it?

Usually the customer already has one, or the type needed is agreed when the job is booked. If what turns up on site is wrong for the panel or the wall, you flag it to the office rather than making it fit — a mount fighting the weight it was not rated for is a failure waiting weeks to happen.

How far outside 77095 would I be sent?

We try to keep a day tight, and this corner of northwest Houston has enough density to make that realistic. You will still see nearby ZIP codes along the 290 and Barker Cypress corridors. Anything genuinely far is offered, not imposed.

Can I add a power outlet behind the display while I am there?

No. EVOTECH is a low-voltage contractor. Signal cabling, in-wall rated runs, plates and cable management are our scope; anything involving line-voltage wiring belongs to a licensed electrician and is arranged through the office. Being confident is not the same as being licensed.

How is compensation handled?

It is agreed face to face, weighed against what the assignments demand and how experienced you already are. Rates are deliberately not advertised: the jobs on this route run from a plain bedroom mount to a covered-patio installation with a concealed run, and one number would be misleading in both directions.

If you can find the path through the house, this route rewards it
