TV Hanging Technician Jobs in Houston, TX 77009

Near Northside, Lindale Park, Woodland Heights and Brooke Smith, just north of the bayou. This page is about how a person actually gets onto the 77009 roster — the entry routes, the ride-along, the assessment, the standards attached to every assignment, and where the role leads after the first year.

Three routes into this role, and they are not equal

Most people who end up running 77009 assignments arrive by one of three doors, and being honest about which one you are walking through saves everybody a wasted fortnight.

  • The experienced display installer. Years of mounting behind you, possibly from a retailer’s install programme or a handyman business. You will move through onboarding quickly. What we are checking is judgement on difficult walls and behaviour in someone’s home, not whether you can use a drill.
  • The adjacent tradesperson. Electricians, alarm and camera fitters, cable technicians, drywall and finish carpenters. You already understand structure and you already work in occupied homes. The gap is usually panel handling and mount selection, and that is teachable inside a few weeks.
  • The genuinely new starter. Capable with tools, no trade history. This is the slowest door and it is not closed. You start as a second pair of hands on other people’s assignments and you are not sent anywhere alone until the work says you are ready.

Overstating which door you came through is the single most common mistake applicants make. It is discovered immediately, on the first real wall, in front of a customer.

The ride-along, and what the first days are actually for

New technicians start out on the van with an established one. The purpose is not to prove you can lift something. It is to let you see a full working day end to end, several times, including the parts nobody describes in an advert.

Across those days you will watch how an assignment is read before the door is knocked, how a technician walks a room and forms a plan in two minutes, how a customer is told that their preferred wall will not work, how a job is documented, and what happens when something goes wrong halfway through. You will be asked what you would have done, and the answer you give matters more than whether you guessed correctly.

It is also your chance to decide against the role. Working alone in strangers’ homes, in Houston summer heat, with a schedule that shifts, suits some people and not others. Nobody thinks less of a person who works it out during a ride-along rather than three weeks into their own route.

The working assessment and what a pass looks like

After the ride-along you take work under supervision. It is real work for real customers, not a test rig in a warehouse, and you are compensated for it.

What is being assessed:

What we watchWhat a pass looks like
Wall diagnosisYou confirm structure rather than assume it, and you say out loud what you are unsure of
Mount selectionThe bracket matches the panel, the wall and how the room is used — not just what came in the box
Room protectionCovers down and dust controlled before the first hole, every time, without being told
Customer handlingPlain language, no overselling, no improvised promises, no arguments
Knowing the limitYou stop and call the office instead of forcing a doubtful installation
DocumentationCondition photographs on arrival, finished photographs, notes that another person could read

The last two carry the most weight. Technical skill can be built; a person who will not admit to a limit cannot be sent into homes on their own.

What this ZIP code puts in front of a new technician

77009 is a useful place to learn because the building stock changes street by street rather than district by district. Within a short drive a technician meets early-century frame cottages on pier and beam around Woodland Heights, brick and brick-veneer homes from the nineteen-thirties and forties through Lindale Park, small frame houses in Near Northside that have been added to repeatedly over the decades, a run of duplexes and small multi-family buildings, and newer three-storey infill dropped onto single old lots.

Practically, that means a technician cannot arrive with one method. A brick-veneer wall wants a different fastener from a plank-sheathed frame wall, and the additions on the back of an older Northside house often contain framing that follows no rule at all — because it was built by whoever owned the house at the time, without a drawing. When the structure is unreadable, the answer is to stop and ask rather than to keep drilling exploratory holes in someone’s living room.

There is also steady light commercial demand along the neighbourhood’s older corner-building storefronts and small offices — a screen behind a counter, a pair of displays in a waiting area. Those assignments run on the customer’s business hours and are treated with the same standards as a house.

Gates, dogs and a driveway two feet wider than your mirrors

The unglamorous half of the job on this route is getting to the wall at all. Lots here are narrow and old, driveways are single-width strips of concrete poured long before modern vehicles, and many properties are fully fenced with a gate that has to be opened from inside. Rear additions and garage apartments frequently have their own separate entrance down the side of the house.

  • Dogs are normal and are not the customer’s oversight. The expectation is that you call ahead, ask directly, and wait rather than let yourself through a side gate.
  • Confirm which unit. Duplexes and converted houses in this ZIP often share a street number with a letter, and knocking at the wrong half wastes a slot.
  • Do not block the neighbour. On these street widths a badly parked van genuinely traps somebody in, and that complaint reaches us before the job is finished.
  • Plan for the walk. Where the driveway will not take a vehicle, the panel and the tools still have to reach the door.

Where a hanging technician goes after the first year

Display mounting is the entry point of a low-voltage business, not the ceiling of one. EVOTECH IT LLC is a licensed and insured low-voltage contractor working across Katy, Houston, Sugar Land, Richmond, Fulshear, Cypress and the surrounding area, and the display work sits alongside cameras, network cabling, access control and audio.

Technicians who show steady judgement tend to move outward from mounting into structured cabling and camera work, then into scoping assignments and mentoring new starters through their own ride-alongs. Nothing about that is automatic and none of it is promised on a web page — it depends on the person, on what they want, and on what work exists at the time. What we can say is that the path exists here and people have walked it.

Applying for 77009 technician work

Call (832) 359-2425 or send your details through the contact page, and say which of the three entry routes describes you. Have ready: how long you have been doing this kind of work, whether you carry your own general liability cover, what you drive, what tools you already own, and which days you can genuinely commit to.

What the role pays is established during that interview, measured against scope and experience. No figure is quoted before we know what a person can take on, and you should be sceptical of anyone in this trade who does. Related work is described on our TV mounting, security camera and network cabling pages if you want to see the range before you call.

Frequently asked questions

I have never worked for a contractor before. Does that rule me out?
No. It changes the route in, not the outcome. Someone with no trade history starts as a second pair of hands on other technicians’ assignments and is not dispatched alone until the supervised work shows they are ready. What does rule an applicant out is claiming experience they do not have, because the first difficult wall exposes it in front of a customer.
Is the working assessment unpaid?
No. The assessment period is real work for real customers and it is compensated. We are not interested in free labour dressed up as a trial, and a technician concentrating on whether the day is worth anything is not concentrating on the customer’s wall.
Can I keep another job while I am being brought on?
Often yes, particularly during the early stage when you are working alongside someone else and the days can be arranged. Once you are running your own assignments the constraint becomes reliability: a committed arrival window has to be met. Tell us the real availability at interview rather than the availability you hope to have.
How is pay handled once I am running my own assignments?
It is fixed during the interview, shaped by the scope you carry and by the work you are actually assigned and whether you operate as an employee or as an insured independent contractor. No figure is published here because it would be misleading for most of the people reading it.
