TV Hanging Technician Jobs in the Houston Heights, TX 77008
Houston Heights, Woodland Terrace, Timbergrove Manor, Shady Acres and Lazybrook. EVOTECH IT LLC adds technicians to the 77008 roster a few at a time, and the filter is not speed. It is whether the wall looks untouched when you leave a house whose owner spent two years restoring it.
The work here is judged on what the room looks like afterwards
A display that is level and secure is the minimum, not the achievement. On this route the customer’s verdict is formed by the six inches of wall around the bracket and by whether a single cable is visible anywhere.
Most 77008 homeowners have either restored an old house themselves or paid a great deal to have it restored. They notice a filled hole that was never sanded. They notice a plate that sits a degree off square against a door casing. They notice that the picture rail was drilled through. A technician can be fast, strong and technically correct and still fail here by leaving work that looks approximate.
What we actually want to see on a finished job: mounting hardware buried behind the panel with nothing protruding, cable dressed and terminated rather than tucked, any opened wall closed and made ready for touch-up, the customer shown how the arm moves and where the connections are, and the room put back exactly as it was found. That last point is not decoration. Furniture returned to marks on the floor is one of the things people mention when they recommend a technician to a neighbour.
What sits behind a Heights wall is usually not what the customer thinks
The building stock north of Washington and west of Studewood is dominated by houses framed long before drywall was standard, and it does not behave predictably. Depending on the block and the decade of the last renovation, a technician can meet horizontal plank sheathing behind the plaster, lath and plaster over rough-sawn studs at irregular spacing, drywall laid straight over the original surface during a nineteen-nineties remodel, or a modern infill build with entirely conventional framing next door to all of it.
Irregular stud spacing is the practical consequence. Framing in these houses was not set on a modern module, so a bracket designed to catch two studs at a fixed spacing may catch one, or one and a half, or a stud and a piece of old blocking. A technician who drills the second lag on faith rather than on a confirmed hit is the reason a panel later pulls out of a wall.
The two questions worth answering before any hole
- Is there anything live in this cavity? Older houses in this ZIP have been rewired and re-plumbed in layers, often without records, and a gas line for a decommissioned wall heater can still be sitting in a chase behind a chimney breast.
- Is this surface carrying the load, or hiding it? A quarter-inch skin of drywall over original plank sheathing reads solid on a scanner and provides nothing. The fixing has to reach real structure, and the length of the fastener has to account for the full build-up.
Shady Acres and Timbergrove change the answer again
The western and northern parts of 77008 carry a heavy share of newer three-storey replacement builds on old lots, plus mid-century ranch stock around Lazybrook. Inside a five-year-old house the framing is conventional and the puzzle disappears — but the finishes are softer and newer, and the owner is often more particular about the wall than the person in the hundred-year-old bungalow. Neither half of this ZIP code lets a technician switch off.
Concealment is the skill that separates applicants here
Almost every customer in this ZIP code asks for the cables to disappear, and in a pre-war house the easy answers are frequently unavailable. There may be no usable cavity because the wall is solid plank. There may be a cavity that cannot be fished because of horizontal fire blocking. Pier-and-beam construction, common through the older streets, gives a route underneath the house that most of Houston does not have — which is an advantage if you are willing to work in a crawl space and useless if you are not.
So the technician has to choose a route and commit to it in front of the customer, before drilling. The realistic options are a fished in-wall run with rated cable and a recessed power solution, a surface raceway painted to match, or a route through the crawl space or an accessible attic bay. Each has a cost in time and in disruption, and the customer is entitled to hear the trade-off in plain language rather than to watch someone improvise.
Anything that goes inside a wall must be rated for in-wall use, and line-voltage power is never simply run through a cavity to reach a panel. Where a new outlet is genuinely required, it is arranged properly rather than invented on the day.
One neighbourhood, very short memory for poor work
77008 is compact, walkable, and unusually communicative. Recommendations move along a street and through neighbourhood groups faster than any advertising does, and they move in both directions. A technician who does clean work in one bungalow will find the next three assignments are within a few blocks of it. A technician who leaves a mess will have that mentioned by name.
That shapes how we handle callbacks. If a customer rings weeks later because a bracket has loosened or a cable has worked its way loose, the response is to go back and correct it without argument. We do not treat a callback as an accusation, and we do not want a technician who does. What we do look at is whether the same fault keeps recurring for the same person, because that is a training issue rather than bad luck.
EVOTECH IT LLC has been working across Katy, Houston and the surrounding area for more than twenty years and holds a 5.0-star rating. Nobody keeps a rating like that by arguing with a homeowner over a loose lag bolt.
What we check before you take Heights assignments on your own
The process is short but it is not a formality.
- A conversation. How long you have been doing this, what kinds of construction you have worked in, and what you are not comfortable with. The last one matters most.
- Verification. Certificate of general liability cover if you operate as an independent contractor, vehicle cover, identity and background checks. These assignments put you alone in people’s homes.
- A working assessment. You work alongside one of our technicians on real assignments. We are watching how you diagnose a wall, how you protect a room, how you speak to an owner, and what you do when the plan fails.
- Your own assignments. Released gradually, starting with work that matches what you have demonstrated.
You bring your own hand tools, drills, scanners, levels and drop protection. Mounts, brackets, rated cable and plates are supplied per assignment. Compensation is agreed at interview against scope and experience — we publish no rate because the honest answer depends entirely on what someone can take on.
