TV Installation Subcontractor Jobs in Houston, TX 77072
Alief runs on two clocks. Families here are often home in the evening and on Sunday, and the plaza tenants along Bellaire and Beechnut want you in the bay after the last customer leaves. An installer who can work those hours is genuinely scarce.
What a Day on the Alief Route Actually Looks Like
Most of this ZIP sits inside a rectangle bounded roughly by Bellaire Boulevard, Beechnut Street, Wilcrest and the far end of Synott, and almost nothing in it is more than a ten minute hop from anything else. Route density is the reason installers like the territory.
Mornings tend to be residential and quiet, because a good share of households here work service and shift hours and the person who booked the job is asleep or already gone. Afternoons get complicated in a way that catches newcomers: school release along Beechnut and Bissonnet turns a five minute leg into twenty, and the Alief campuses are numerous enough that there is no clever detour around all of them. Build the day so the long drive happens before three o’clock, not after.
Evenings are where the volume is. A family that gets home at six will happily take a seven o’clock arrival, and a plaza tenant would much rather you work while the shop is closed than while a customer is in a chair. Installers who treat evening slots as an inconvenience get thin routes here. Installers who take them tend to stay busy.
Eighties Slab Houses, Eight-Foot Ceilings and Full Households
The residential building stock is mostly one and two storey brick-veneer homes from the late seventies through the eighties, built on slab, with eight foot ceilings and sprayed texture overhead. Interior partitions are ordinary framed walls. Exterior-facing walls are commonly furred out behind the brick, which changes what is behind your anchor and changes how far a cable can drop before it meets something solid.
Verify the framing rather than assuming it. Scan, mark, confirm with a small pilot bit, then commit. Rooms in these houses are modest, so the mount height conversation is a real one: a panel set at showroom height above a sofa eight feet away will be uncomfortable for the people who actually live there, and it is your job to say so before the bracket goes up, not afterwards.
Households are frequently multi-generational, which is why so many of these addresses turn into three and four display jobs over time. Somebody is watching news in the front room, somebody else is gaming in a back bedroom, and there is often a display going onto a covered patio. That is good work, and it comes through the office rather than through a handshake in the driveway.
Attic runs deserve respect from May to September. Low pitch roofs, blown insulation, truss webs and ducting in the way mean a summer attic pull is genuinely punishing after mid-morning. Schedule the attic leg first thing, carry water, and tell dispatch if the heat means a job needs an earlier window.
Strip-Plaza Commercial: Block Walls, Tile Ceilings and Somebody Else’s Conduit
The retail corridors here are dense with independent tenants: restaurants, groceries, bakeries, salons, phone and repair counters, small medical and dental suites, insurance offices and congregations meeting in converted bays. Their display work is steady and it is different from residential in ways that matter.
The wall is usually painted concrete block or a block demising wall between tenancies. That means a hammer drill and proper masonry anchors, and it means you do not core, notch or breach a demising wall without approval, because fire separation between bays is not decoration. Penetrations that do go through get sealed properly.
Above you there is normally an accessible suspended tile ceiling. Cable run in that space needs to be rated for the space it occupies, supported on its own hangers rather than laid across tile grid or draped over ductwork, and kept out of anything that is not yours.
That last point is worth saying plainly: conduit and cable trays in a leased bay usually belong to the landlord or a previous tenant’s contractor. You do not pull through them on assumption. Power for a new display position is an electrician’s scope and we arrange it; your side is the mount, the signal path and the finish.
Access is often after hours through a landlord or a manager with a key, so the confirmation call the night before is not a formality in this segment. It is the whole job.
The While-You-Are-Here Conversation
More than anywhere else we route, 77072 customers will ask for extra work while you are standing in the room. A second bedroom display, a soundbar that came out of a box last week, a camera over the back door, a cable pulled to the patio.
The answer is always the same and it is not no. It is: let me get that scoped properly. You call dispatch, the office prices it, and either it is added to today or it is booked. That single discipline protects three things at once. It keeps the work inside the contract you are insured and paid under, it keeps the customer from being quoted two different numbers by two different people, and it keeps you out of the position of having done an hour of unpaid favours by five o’clock.
The same rule covers the reverse case. If you arrive and the scope on the order does not match what is in front of you, stop and call before you start. A work order that says wall mount and turns out to be a masonry chimney breast with no power nearby is a different job, and everyone would rather find that out at the start of the hour than at the end of it.
The Paperwork That Has to Exist Before You Are Routed
None of this is unusual, but all of it is required, and we cannot send an installer to a customer address until it is complete.
- General liability cover written in your own business name, with a certificate on file with our office.
- Commercial vehicle cover for the vehicle you actually drive to jobs.
- W-9 and a business identity to invoice under, because subcontractors are paid against invoices, not payroll.
- Background screening consent. You will be alone in family homes and in closed retail bays after hours.
- Verifiable history. References, previous employers or photographs of your own finished work all count.
On the licensing question, be clear on where the line sits. EVOTECH IT LLC holds the contractor licence and insurance that the work is performed under, and in Texas the camera and alarm side of low voltage is regulated work carried out under that licence and supervision. It is not something you pick up on your own account from one of our customers.
Tool List, Alief Edition
Nobody expects a brand new kit. We do expect the items below, because the mix of block bays and eighties framing here makes them unavoidable.
| Item | Why it matters in 77072 |
|---|---|
| Hammer drill or SDS-plus, masonry bits | Block walls are the norm in plaza bays and on some garage and patio walls. |
| Masonry sleeve anchors, rated toggles | Hollow block and brick veneer need the right anchor, not a longer screw. |
| Glow rods, fish tape, drop-down magnets | Furred exterior walls and eight foot ceilings leave little room for error on a blind pull. |
| Rated in-wall cable and recessed brackets | Standard for a clean finish; keeps the signal path legal and tidy. |
| Attic board, headlamp, knee protection | Low pitch roofs and blown insulation make attic legs slow and easy to misstep. |
| Dust control and floor protection | Texture dust travels, and these are lived-in family rooms. |
| Secure ladder mounting on the vehicle | Everything in this ZIP is a short hop, so you load and unload constantly. |
Getting on the 77072 Rotation
Applying takes one phone call. Ring (832) 359-2425 or use the contact page and say you are an installer looking for subcontract work in the Alief area.
Bring four things to the conversation: what your kit covers today, what you drive, which evenings and weekends you can genuinely commit to, and the name of your insurance agent. Photographs of your own finished installs carry more weight with us than a resume does, so send a handful if you have them.
Pay is settled in that interview and nowhere else, because the truthful figure moves with the breadth of work you can cover and how long you have been doing it. We do not publish a rate on a web page for that reason.
EVOTECH IT LLC is a licensed and insured low voltage contractor serving Katy, Houston, Sugar Land, Richmond, Fulshear, Cypress and the surrounding area, working in this trade for more than twenty years and rated 5.0 stars.

Frequently asked questions
The customer wants two more televisions done while I am already there. Can I just do them?
Call dispatch first and let the office add the scope. It takes two minutes and it keeps the extra work inside the contract you are insured under and invoiced for. Quoting from the living room floor is where installers end up doing free labour and where customers end up with two different prices from the same company.
Do I need to speak a second language to work Alief?
No. Patience and demonstration carry the day. Hold the bracket up, tape an outline, let the customer sit and look before you drill, and use a translation app on your phone without embarrassment when you need one. Rushing a conversation is what causes problems here, not vocabulary.
What sort of vehicle do you expect?
Something that carries a large boxed panel flat and dry, with the ladder secured properly, and that looks like a working business when it pulls into a driveway or a plaza lot. An enclosed cargo van is ideal. A covered truck bed with a proper rack is accepted. An open bed in a Houston summer afternoon is not.
What actually gets an applicant turned down?
Being uninsured and content to stay that way. No traceable record of having done this work before. Unwillingness to let the office handle pricing. And any sign of safety shortcuts, particularly around ladders, anchors and working alone with large panels. Gaps in your tool kit are a conversation; those four are not.
