TV Installation Subcontractor Work in Houston, TX 77009
North of downtown, one order is often four orders. Landlords with duplexes, a leasing office filling a new building, a family business putting screens over a counter — 77009 sends EVOTECH IT LLC a volume of small, stacked installation work, and this page tells an independent installer what it takes to run it well.
You are sent a scope, not just an address
Every ticket that reaches you carries the property, the equipment, the rooms involved, who will be there to let you in, and anything the customer told us about access. Read all of it before you accept, because in this ZIP code the second line is usually the one that decides your afternoon.
The residential work is mostly modest in size and high in variety. A 55 or 65 over a console in a small frame house. A bedroom install in a garage apartment behind the main house. A landlord refreshing a unit between tenants. A newer townhome where the living area is upstairs. Very little of it is a single large panel in a purpose-built media room, and almost all of it needs a clean concealed cable path in a house that was not designed with one.
What is consistently expected of you regardless of the address: the display sits level and at a sensible viewing height, no cable shows, the power solution is a rated in-wall kit rather than something improvised, the sources are tested and working before you leave, and the site is cleaner than you found it.
When one owner has four units and one afternoon
Duplexes, fourplexes, garage apartments and small apartment blocks are a genuine part of the housing here, and owners tend to batch their work. A single order can therefore be several installs at one property, or several properties within a few blocks, all on the same day.
That changes how you load the van. Running out of anchors on the second of four units means a supply-house trip in the middle of the afternoon and a schedule you will not recover. Carry multiples: mounts of the sizes stated on the order, fixings for both wood framing and masonry, in-wall kits, plates, patching material and enough cable to cover a long run rather than an average one.
It also changes how you communicate. On a tenanted unit, the occupant is in their home but the person who ordered and pays is the owner. The tenant’s comfort matters — shoes, dust sheets, asking before moving furniture — but the placement decision belongs to whoever placed the order. When those two disagree, you do not arbitrate it standing in the doorway. You call the office and let us resolve it with the person whose name is on the ticket.
New apartment buildings around the redevelopment near the north end of downtown add another version of this: a leasing office or building manager as the customer, a certificate of insurance required at the desk, a loading dock with hours, and a freight elevator that has to be reserved. Those details come to you with the order when the customer gives them to us.
Screens over counters, in waiting areas and in back offices
North Main, Fulton and the smaller commercial pockets are full of independent businesses — restaurants, bakeries, salons, tire and repair shops, clinics, community halls — and they order display work for reasons that are not entertainment. A menu screen above a counter. A waiting-room display. A monitor in a back office so the owner can see the camera feed while doing paperwork.
The practical differences are worth knowing. Commercial panels often go higher than residential ones, which puts you on a ladder in an active room and makes securing the anchor critical rather than merely important. Older commercial buildings along these streets frequently have structural masonry behind a skim of plaster. Many tenants lease and cannot authorize a penetration on their own say-so, so if the person on site starts a sentence with ‘I will ask the landlord later’, stop and call us.
Where a screen is being tied to a camera system or fed from a network, the low-voltage side is coordinated through the office. If you are also comfortable terminating and testing data cable, tell us at the interview — those installers get sent more work, because more of a ticket can be closed in one visit.
Driveways, gates and where you are actually going to park
The street grid here is older and tighter than the suburbs. Many blocks have narrow or gravel driveways, some houses have none and you are parking on the street with your gear a good distance from the door. Rear garage apartments are often reached through a side gate rather than through the house. Dogs in a yard are common enough that asking about them when you confirm the appointment is simply good practice.
Freight and rail movement across the area can close a crossing at an inconvenient moment, and the corridors feeding downtown carry serious congestion at the ends of the day. None of that is an excuse the customer wants to hear, so build the route with margin rather than tuning it to the best possible case.
Confirming with the customer the evening before, and again when you are genuinely on your way, prevents most of the wasted trips on this route. If nobody answers at the door, call the office before you leave the property — do not simply drive off and mark it complete-unable.
What you carry, sign and stand behind
You will be working as an independent contractor, which means your own business, your own tools and vehicle, and your own insurance. Before the first address goes out to you we need a current general liability certificate, commercial auto coverage that reflects how you work, a completed W-9, and a signed agreement that sets out standards, conduct and responsibility for damage.
Anyone working alongside you must be covered under your policy. Anything touching a branch circuit is handled by the licensed side of EVOTECH IT LLC, which has operated as a licensed and insured low-voltage contractor in the Houston area since 2004. Those two rules are not negotiable, and they are the ones that protect you as much as they protect the customer.
The close-out is also part of the standard: photographs of the finished work, every source tested in front of the customer, debris removed, and the paperwork submitted the same day where possible.
How you get added to the 77009 rotation
Phone (832) 359-2425 and say you are an installer looking for contract orders, or submit your details on the contact page. Tell us where you are based, what days you have, whether you run with a partner, whether you are comfortable with multi-unit days, and what you carry in the van.
Payment terms are covered in that conversation and follow the scope of the work and the experience behind you. New installers typically start with a handful of orders so the standard can be seen in practice, and the volume follows from there.
