TV Mount Subcontractor Jobs in Houston, TX 77082
Between Dairy Ashford, Wilcrest and the Westchase edge, most of the doors you knock on in 77082 belong to somebody other than the person who opens them. That single fact shapes every mounting order we release here.
Who this work suits in west Houston
This is not a route for an installer whose whole method is a stud finder and two lag bolts. It suits somebody organised — a business that answers the phone, arrives inside a booked window, and can get itself through a controlled entrance without a customer having to rescue it.
Roughly, 77082 sits west of Wilcrest and south of the Westchase office district, wrapping Dairy Ashford and Richmond. The residential stock leans heavily toward leased housing: large garden-apartment communities, stacked and stair-access buildings, townhome sections with managed gates, and gated neighbourhoods with their own architectural rules. There is owner-occupied housing here too, and some of it is substantial, but the volume tilts toward doors controlled by a management company.
The installers who thrive on this map treat the leasing office as part of the job rather than an obstacle. The ones who struggle treat every locked gate as somebody else’s problem, run late, and get quietly rotated off the list.
The order mix coming out of 77082
Expect four recognisable shapes of work, and expect to be told which one you are accepting before you accept it.
- Unit installs. A resident buys a display and wants it up. Straightforward on the wall, complicated on permission — see the section on rented walls below.
- Move-in work. Somebody has just taken a lease and wants the living room finished before the boxes are unpacked. These carry hard deadlines because the resident took a day off to be there.
- Common-area and office displays. Leasing offices, clubhouses, fitness rooms and business centres. Higher visibility, stricter finish expectations, usually scheduled around office hours.
- Gated-section residential. Single-family and townhome addresses behind a manned or coded entrance, where the mounting problem is ordinary and the logistics are not.
Displays in this ZIP skew toward apartment-scale rooms, which means more articulating arms in corners, more soundbar brackets, and more requests to hide a cable in a wall the customer is not allowed to open. Being able to offer a clean surface-raceway alternative, painted to match, is genuinely valuable here and it saves jobs that would otherwise be cancelled at the door.
Metal studs, rated walls, and why a lag kit alone will not do
Plenty of installers arrive in a multifamily building with a residential method and discover the framing will not accept it. Light-gauge steel framing is common in this housing stock, and a lag screw driven into twenty-five-gauge steel does not develop the pull-out strength a heavy display needs, no matter how tight it felt going in.
| Wall you meet | The method that holds |
|---|---|
| Light-gauge steel stud behind drywall | Purpose-made toggle anchors rated for the load, set into the board and engaging the stud web properly, or a spanning plate that distributes across multiple studs. |
| Concrete or block demising wall | Rotary hammer with sleeve or wedge anchors sized to the mount. Verify what is on the other side before you drill through. |
| Rated corridor or demising assembly | Do not penetrate. Fire-rated separations exist for a reason and cutting one is not a judgement call an installer gets to make on site. |
| Standard wood-framed interior in older sections | Conventional structural fasteners, still confirmed by pilot and not by guesswork. |
If you open a wall and the cavity is not what the work order described, that is a call to the office. Nobody is annoyed by that call. What ends agreements is an installer who forced a mount into an assembly that would not carry it and left a building manager to find out later.
Gate codes, leasing offices and the freight elevator
A meaningful share of the lost hours on this route are lost at the entrance, not on the wall. Treat access as the first task of the job and it stops costing you a day.
- Confirm the entry method the day before. Gate code, call-box directory name, guard list, or a resident who has to come down. Each one fails in a different way and each one has a different fix.
- Find out where you are allowed to park. Many communities will not let a work vehicle sit in a fire lane or a reserved space even for twenty minutes, and a tow at nine in the morning ends your entire day, not just that job.
- Ask about the service entrance. In stacked buildings the route for a boxed display and a ladder is often not the route residents use, and some buildings ask you to reserve an elevator window in advance.
- Sign in where required. Some offices want a vendor log entry and a look at your certificate before you go up. Arriving with that paperwork ready is the difference between starting on time and sitting in a lobby.
In the gated residential sections the same discipline applies with a human at the gate: the resident’s name, the address and your business name, given calmly, gets you through. Arguing with a gate attendant gets you a note in a file you will never see.
The certificate question that stops most applicants
This is where a lot of applications for west Houston work stall, so it is worth being direct about it. To work multifamily property you generally need more than proof that insurance exists somewhere. Property managers routinely require a certificate of insurance that names their ownership entity and management company as additional insured for the visit, and they check it.
What that means practically for you:
- You hold general liability in your own business name, live on the date of work.
- Your agent can issue a certificate with additional-insured wording on reasonable notice — not in four weeks.
- You keep the current certificate where you can produce it, because you will be asked to.
- Vehicle insurance is current, because you are parking on private managed property all day.
If you have never carried a certificate, say so plainly when you apply. It is a solvable problem and it is not a character flaw — but it has to be solved before any 77082 order can be released to you, because EVOTECH IT LLC is a licensed and insured low-voltage contractor and we do not put uninsured hands on a property under our name.
Tight windows, and what a missed one actually costs
Residents on this route are usually working people who booked time off to be home. Apartment and townhome appointments run on narrower windows than suburban house calls, and they stack more tightly because the drive between two addresses may be four minutes.
That density is the good news and the trap. A single overrun at ten in the morning can push three later appointments, and unlike a detached-house route you cannot quietly absorb it, because the next resident is standing in a leasing office asking where you are. Installers who last here build slack into the middle of the day and call the office the moment a job turns out to be bigger than the order said.
Evening and Saturday availability matters more on this map than almost anywhere else we dispatch, for the simple reason that a leased unit is usually empty during the working day.
