Access Control Contractor in Fulshear: Gates, New Builds and Growing Campuses
In Fulshear, access control is usually planned while the property is still going up: a custom home on acreage, a clubhouse in a new section, a church adding a wing, a clinic on a freshly poured pad. Bring the contractor in at the right phase and the system disappears into the build. Wait until the drywall and the driveway are finished, and every wire becomes a patch.
Why the hiring moment matters more in Fulshear
Much of Fulshear and its extraterritorial jurisdiction is new or under construction. Master-planned communities such as Cross Creek Ranch and Jordan Ranch keep opening sections, Fulbrook on Fulshear Creek adds homes behind its gates, and custom builds on acreage continue along the FM 359 and FM 1093 corridors. Retail centers, clinics, daycares and church campuses follow the rooftops.
So many Fulshear owners choose an access control contractor before there is anything to secure. That is the best position to be in, provided the contractor is involved before three moments that cannot be undone cheaply: the pour of the driveway and flatwork, the hanging of insulation and drywall, and the order for door and gate hardware.
An access control timeline for a property that is still going up
| Build phase | What the access contractor does | What it prevents |
|---|---|---|
| Plans | Marks every controlled opening: main entry, garage-to-house door, detached shop or barn, pool gate, driveway gate, network closet. Chooses between owner-installed smart hardware and a true controller. | Discovering the shop door or the gate after the budget is fixed |
| Before flatwork | Specifies sleeves under the driveway and walks for gate and pedestal cable, separate from the electrician’s power conduit | Saw-cutting new concrete or boring underneath it |
| Framing rough-in | Pulls composite cable to each door, sets back boxes for keypads and intercom stations, adds blocking and home-runs to the equipment location | Fishing wire through insulated, finished walls |
| Hardware order | Confirms electrified hinges or through-wire pivots, strike preparations and lock voltages with the door supplier | A custom front door that cannot be electrified without replacing it |
| Trim-out | Mounts readers, keypads and intercom stations after paint; programs the controller | Overspray on reader lenses and door contacts |
| Gate completion | Connects the callbox or reader to the operator; tests vehicle detection and the visitor call path | A gate that opens for the keypad but not for guests |
| Move-in | Creates owner, family, staff and vendor users; hands over app accounts and documentation | Codes that still live in the builder’s phone |
Pivot front doors deserve a special note because they are popular on new custom homes. Electrifying one requires a through-wire pivot or a lock designed for that door, and the decision has to be made when the door is ordered.
Five trades meet at a Fulshear driveway gate, and where each one stops
A driveway gate on an acreage property looks like one product. On the job it is five scopes, and most gate problems we are called to fix live in the gaps between them.
- Gate fabricator: builds and hangs the gate leaf, sets hinges or the slide track, and decides swing direction.
- Gate operator installer: mounts the motor or arms and installs the entrapment protection demanded by the UL 325 gate operator standard: photo eyes, contact edges and similar sensors. Those safety devices belong to the operator, and an access contractor should never bypass or repurpose them.
- Electrician: brings line power to the operator, unless the owner chooses a solar kit because the gate sits too far from the meter.
- Concrete or site contractor: pours the drive and, if told in time, leaves the sleeves.
- Access control contractor: supplies the keypad, reader or callbox, windshield-tag readers if residents will use them, the dry-contact connection that tells the operator to open, the phone or app integration, and the event log.
The failure pattern is predictable. Each trade assumes someone else is making the connection between the entry device and the operator’s control board. On our jobs, that connection and its test are written into our scope by name.
Deed restrictions and architectural review come first
Master-planned communities around Fulshear generally route exterior changes through an architectural review or modifications committee under the deed restrictions. A keypad pedestal at the end of a driveway, a reader beside a side gate, a video intercom at the front door or a new iron entry door can all need approval, depending on the community. We supply product data sheets, finish options and a simple mounting sketch for the owner’s application, and exterior work waits until approval is in hand.
When the client is the association itself, such as an amenity center, a resident pool or a gated section entry, our contact is usually the management company and the questions change: how residents enroll, how a lost fob is disabled the same day, and which rules apply after hours. Our Fulshear access control cabling page covers the wiring side of amenity doors.
Church, school and clinic campuses on the growth corridor
Churches, schools and medical tenants going up along the two farm-to-market corridors have needs a house never does:
- Church campuses run on two rhythms. Sunday schedules unlock the worship center while a children’s wing stays locked behind staffed check-in; weekday schedules serve an office, a preschool or a counseling ministry. Volunteer turnover is constant, so a credential deleted in seconds beats rekeying cylinders every time a key walks away.
- Schools and learning centers ask for a lockdown command that secures every exterior door at once from a button, a phone or the admin software, plus visitor entry through a video intercom at a vestibule.
- Clinics and dental offices need rooms such as medication storage and records to log which person opened the door and when. Shared keypad codes defeat that.
- Retail tenants in new strip centers usually control only a rear service door and perhaps a stock room, while the storefront stays on mechanical keys under the landlord’s rules.
None of this replaces a mechanical key plan. Fire department key boxes, utility rooms and emergency overrides still depend on keys. Access control shrinks how many keys are in circulation.
A smart lock, or an access control contractor?
Not every Fulshear property needs a contractor. A family home with one front door and no gate is well served by a quality smart deadbolt the owner installs, paired with a doorbell camera. You have moved into contractor territory when any of these is true:
- A driveway or pedestrian gate must open from a keypad, a phone or a visitor call.
- The property has more than one building, such as a house plus a shop, barn, guest quarters or pool house, and you want one set of users across all of them.
- Staff or vendors need access on schedules that expire on their own.
- It is a business, church or school with employees or volunteers, and you need a log you can rely on.
- A door sits on an exit path, so its lock and exit hardware must keep people able to leave in an emergency.
- You want the gate, the doors and the intercom in one app instead of three.
How EVOTECH runs a Fulshear project
- Plan review or site visit. We read plans if the building is not up yet, or walk the property if it is, and list every opening you want controlled.
- Itemized scope. A door-by-door and gate-by-gate list showing hardware, cable, controller and who supplies each item.
- Builder coordination. Our visits follow the builder’s schedule, sleeves before the pour and cable before insulation, and we confirm with the superintendent before each trip.
- Rough-in and trim visits. Cable and boxes during framing; devices, programming and labels after paint.
- Commissioning. Every door and gate is tested with valid and invalid credentials, with mains power off, and through the visitor call path, and anything that fails is fixed before handover.
- Handover. Administrator accounts registered to the owner, family and staff users entered, and a kitchen-table lesson on issuing and cancelling codes from the app.
Our crew works out of Katy, the next town over, and covers Fulshear proper as well as the unincorporated land around it. A call to (832) 359-2425 settles which days line up with your property and your builder’s calendar.
What sets the size of a Fulshear quote
- Distance from the house or equipment closet to the gate, and whether sleeves were left under the drive.
- How many doors you want controlled, spread across how many separate structures.
- Residential-grade hardware versus a commercial controller with schedules and an audit log.
- Grid power at the gate or a solar operator, which limits what entry equipment its battery can carry.
- Video intercom, cameras tied to door and gate events, and phone app integration.
- Open walls during construction versus fishing cable through finished ones. The stone and brick facades common on newer Fulshear homes also mean masonry drilling for exterior readers.
- How many trips the builder’s schedule requires.
Every item is priced as its own line. Book an on-site estimate, or send the plans if the property is still on paper.
Where new-construction access jobs in Fulshear go wrong
- No sleeve under the driveway, or one crushed during the pour, so the gate cable ends up in a shallow trench across the lawn.
- Low-voltage cable stapled tight to a stud and pierced by a drywall screw, discovered only when a reader goes dead after move-in.
- Painters caulking over a door position switch or coating a reader lens.
- A keypad pedestal set so close to the gate that a waiting truck sits in the swing path, or at a height only a sedan window reaches.
- A cloud-connected gate controller joined to the builder’s temporary Wi-Fi, which vanishes at closing.
- Vendor codes created during construction and never expired.
- A long copper run to the gate with no surge protection at either end, followed by the first summer thunderstorm. Where the cable crosses open ground, bonding at the pedestal and protectors on the reader circuit belong in the base scope.
