Motion Announcement Installation in Cypress, TX 77433
Every motion announcer is three pieces of hardware: something that detects, something that carries the signal, and something that speaks. Installation is mostly about the middle piece. In 77433 that can mean pushing a wireless signal from a gate several hundred feet down a west-Cypress drive, burying cable to a post on a Towne Lake bulkhead, or wiring a door sensor into the paging amplifier of a shop along US-290.
Detector, link, speaker: the hardware behind a spoken alert
Before anything is mounted we decide each of the three parts separately, because the right choice for one depends on the other two.
The detector
- Passive infrared. Reacts to warm bodies: people, pets, deer. Right for walkways, porches and doorways.
- Buried magnetic probe. Senses a large mass of moving steel, so it announces vehicles and ignores people and animals. Right for long drives where you only care about cars and trucks.
- Infrared break-beam. A transmitter and receiver on opposite posts; anything that interrupts the beam triggers it. Right for gate openings and narrow entries.
- Contact switch. A magnetic reed switch on a door or gate. The cheapest, most certain trigger when a door has to open anyway.
- Relay output. Many gate operators and alarm panels have an auxiliary contact that can start an announcement; the equipment’s manual decides what is allowed.
The link
Either a radio transmitter talking to a plug-in receiver, or a low-voltage cable carrying a dry contact to a receiver, message player or smart-home input.
The voice
A plug-in chime receiver, a smart speaker, ceiling speakers on a paging amplifier, or an outdoor horn where people work in noise.
The box says long range. Your kitchen hears nothing. Here is why.
Announcer kits quote range measured across an open field with a clear line of sight. A house is not an open field. The materials common in Cypress construction each take a bite out of the signal:
| Obstacle | Effect on the signal | Typical workaround |
|---|---|---|
| Brick veneer | Moderate loss, worse where it is thick or wet | Receiver on a wall facing the transmitter, near a window |
| Stucco over metal lath | Heavy loss; the wire mesh behaves like a shield | Receiver near a window or in the garage, or a wired link |
| Radiant-barrier roof decking | Blocks signals arriving from above and at steep angles | Keep transmitters low and receivers on the ground floor facing them |
| Low-E window glass | The metallic coating reflects a meaningful share of RF | Do not assume a window is an open path; test it |
| Metal garage door, vehicles, water heater | Large, unpredictable shadows | Avoid placing the receiver behind the garage |
| Metal barns and shops | Near-total block | External antenna, receiver outside the building, or cable |
| Tree lines and wet foliage | Loss that grows after rain | Test after a wet day, not only on a dry one |
So we never mount a wireless transmitter first and hope. We hold it at the proposed spot on a pole, trigger it repeatedly, and listen at the receiver’s intended location before drilling anything. If the margin is thin, we move the receiver, add a second receiver, or switch that zone to cable.
Long drives and gate entries on the western edge of 77433
Toward Katy-Hockley Road and the Hockley side, a good share of properties are acreage with pipe fencing, gravel or caliche drives, livestock or horses, and a metal shop or barn. The announcer problems there are different from a subdivision’s.
- Vehicles only. With cattle, horses or deer about, a PIR at the gate will talk all night. A buried probe beside the drive announces only vehicles. It has to be set back from the county road, or passing trucks will trigger it.
- Two-stage warning. One zone at the gate, a second near the house, each with its own message, tells you whether a visitor is still at the road or already at the door.
- Power at the gate. Battery transmitters are simplest; a small solar panel suits a gate with a sunny southern exposure; hardwiring is the choice when a trench is going in anyway.
- Digging safely. Any trench or probe hole starts with a Texas 811 utility locate request, even on private land.
- The shop. A receiver inside a steel building hears very little. We put it, or its antenna, outside the metal skin, or run cable in.
Towne Lake bulkheads, Bridgeland new builds and HOA review
Waterfront lots
On Towne Lake and the Bridgeland lakes, the back of the house is also a front door: people arrive by boat and on foot along the water. A detector near the bulkhead or dock, aimed along the dock rather than out across the water, catches arrivals without reacting to every passing boat. Exterior runs there go in conduit or direct-burial-rated cable, and anything powered at the dock needs a proper GFCI-protected outdoor receptacle installed by an electrician if one does not already exist.
Newer construction
Most homes here sit on post-tensioned slabs, often with a warning stamped in the garage floor. We do not drill or core into a post-tension slab to run cable; routes go through walls, soffits and the attic instead. Brick weep holes are left clear rather than used as cable entries, and every penetration in fiber-cement siding is sealed. Newer homes also tend to have radiant-barrier decking, which matters to the wireless plan above.
HOA architectural review
Master-planned communities in 77433 commonly require approval for visible exterior changes such as posts, beams and new devices on the front elevation. We can supply device photos and specifications for your application so the install is not held up.
Entry announcements for Cypress businesses
Along the US-290 and Grand Parkway corridors, the typical requests are a chime when a customer walks into a showroom with nobody at the counter, a spoken warning when the back door opens, and a dock-door announcement in a warehouse.
- Use the building’s audio. A digital message player with contact inputs can feed the existing paging amplifier, so announcements come through the ceiling speakers on the 70-volt line already there. Many commercial amplifiers have a priority input that dips background music while a message plays.
- Zone the audience. "Back door open" belongs in staff areas, not the sales floor.
- Beat the noise. Warehouses need horn speakers and often a visual strobe, because a spoken message is lost under forklifts and fans.
- Keep staff out of the pattern. A sensor that sees behind the counter announces your own employees all day.
The order an EVOTECH installation follows
- Survey and signal test with temporary placement, as described above.
- Confirm power at each point: receptacle, low-voltage supply, battery or solar.
- Pull and terminate cable where the design is wired, with outdoor-rated or direct-burial cable, and conduit where it crosses open ground.
- Mount detectors at the manufacturer’s height and angle, aimed so the pattern ends before the road, the neighbour or the water.
- Mount the voice end: receiver, speaker or player.
- Pair and label every transmitter to its zone.
- Walk and drive test each zone from every direction someone can actually arrive.
- Seal and document. Penetrations sealed, enclosures closed, and a photo record of where cable runs.
Deciding what each zone says, when it stays silent, and which speakers talk is a separate step. We cover that on the motion announcement setup page.
What moves an installation quote
After an on-site estimate you receive an itemized quote. It changes with:
- Distance and obstacles between each detector and its receiver.
- Wireless versus cable, and for cable, trench length and surface: lawn, caliche, or boring under a drive.
- The number of zones and detector types.
- Power at remote points.
- Tie-ins to a gate operator, alarm panel or paging amplifier.
- After-hours work for businesses, and any HOA paperwork.
Installation errors we get called out to correct
- Receiver behind the refrigerator or inside a metal shop.
- Detector aimed at the road, announcing every truck.
- Vehicle probe too close to the county road.
- Beam posts set shallow in clay. Cypress clay swells when wet and shrinks in drought, and a shallow post walks the beam out of alignment within a season.
- Open penetrations. Fire ants and wasps move into unsealed outdoor enclosures and short or jam them.
- Forgotten gate batteries. A battery schedule belongs on the handoff sheet.

Frequently asked questions
Can a motion announcer tell a car from a deer?
Not with a PIR, which responds to any warm body. A buried magnetic probe responds to moving steel, so it announces vehicles and ignores animals and pedestrians. On acreage we often combine the two: a probe for the drive and a PIR only at the house.
Do I need an electrician for this?
Most of the work is low-voltage, which is what we do. If a zone needs a new 120-volt outdoor receptacle, at a gate or a dock for example, that line-voltage work is done by a licensed electrician; we will tell you exactly where it is needed.
Will the receiver work inside my metal shop?
Rarely as-is, because the steel walls block the signal. The fixes are an external antenna where the kit supports one, a receiver mounted outside the building, or a cabled connection.
Does my HOA have to approve the installation?
If the devices are visible from the street or change the exterior, many 77433 associations want an architectural review application. We provide the photos and specifications to include with it.
Can the announcement play through speakers I already own?
Often. Smart speakers, paging amplifiers and some whole-home audio systems can take a trigger. We check what your equipment accepts during the estimate.
Is a wired system better than wireless?
Wired is more dependable and needs no batteries, but it means cable paths and sometimes trenching. Wireless is faster to install and fine when the signal test shows a comfortable margin. Many properties end up with a mix.
