Security Camera Service in Houston, TX 77027
In 77027 the people who call us are usually a shop manager, a suite tenant, or a homeowner four blocks from a tower — and they want three different things from the same trade. EVOTECH IT LLC maintains, repairs and hands over camera systems across Highland Village, Afton Oaks, Royden Oaks and the Post Oak edge. Licensed, insured, 20+ years, 5.0 stars.
Three very different callers inside one small ZIP
77027 is unusually mixed for its size. Retail and restaurants line Richmond and the Highland Village blocks. Leased office suites sit in the Post Oak and Greenway-adjacent buildings. And a few streets over, Afton Oaks and Royden Oaks are single-storey ranch houses on ordinary residential lots. The same phrase — camera service — means something different in each of the three.
A retailer needs footage that will survive being handed to somebody else. A suite tenant needs to know which half of the building is even theirs to work on. A homeowner usually needs one thing repaired without a crew in the driveway for two days. We scope the visit around which of those you are, before we quote anything.
EVOTECH IT LLC is a licensed and insured low-voltage contractor working the Houston area for more than twenty years, rated 5.0 stars. Every estimate begins with someone standing on your property.
Richmond and Highland Village: the footage gets requested for real
Commercial cameras in this corridor are rarely idle decoration. Over a year, a typical shop or restaurant here is asked for video by an insurer after a parking-lot incident, by an officer after something on the sidewalk, by a landlord after damage in a shared service area, and internally after a dispute at the register. A system that records but cannot deliver has failed at the only moment it mattered.
So a commercial service visit here is weighted toward the things that only show up under pressure:
- Clock accuracy. If the recorder has drifted, your video will not line up with a card terminal, a delivery log or a door badge, and someone will say so.
- Real retention. We measure how many days you are actually holding at current settings. Almost nobody is holding what they believe.
- Coverage of the doorway, not the ceiling. Face capture needs a view at head height on approach. A camera in a corner of the ceiling gets a hat.
- The patio and valet lane. Restaurants along this stretch spill outward, and the outdoor cameras are the ones that degrade first.
- Who else can operate it. If only the owner can pull a clip, the system is unavailable on the owner’s day off.
Exporting a clip an adjuster or an officer can actually open
This is the single most common gap we correct in 77027 commercial systems. The video exists. The manager can see it on screen. What comes off the machine is a proprietary file that the person receiving it cannot open on their own computer, or a phone video of a monitor, which is worth very little to anybody.
What we set up instead: an export path that produces a standard, playable file; the original in the manufacturer’s format alongside it for anyone who needs the native data; the correct date, time and camera identity embedded rather than written on a sticky note; and a written one-page procedure taped inside the equipment cabinet so any manager on shift can follow it without calling us.
Do this before you need it. Every business we service gets walked through one practice export while we are standing there. The first time someone tries it should not be the day the police are waiting at the counter.
When the landlord owns the lobby and you own everything past your door
Tenants in the Post Oak and Greenway-adjacent buildings frequently ask us to fix something that is not theirs to fix. The building’s lobby, elevator lobby, garage and perimeter cameras belong to the property. Your suite is yours. That line decides most of what a service visit can do.
Inside your demised space we can service, replace, re-aim or re-cable freely, subject to the building’s contractor rules and insurance requirements. Beyond your door, the correct move is a written request to property management — and if an incident happened in the garage, a dated request creates a record that the footage was asked for while it still existed.
Practical constraints we plan around in leased space: work windows outside business hours, certificates of insurance filed with management before the date, freight-elevator and loading-dock booking, ceiling tiles that must be put back the way the building expects, and no penetration of demising walls or fire-rated assemblies without approval.
A house four blocks from an office tower, with completely different physics
Cross Westheimer or Buffalo Speedway and the job changes entirely. These are mid-century ranch homes, mostly single storey, on lots with mature trees and low eaves. The eave height that makes installation easy is the same height that puts a camera within reach and inside the tree canopy.
The residential service calls here cluster around a short list: a camera swallowed by ten years of oak growth; an outdoor run that failed at the eave where water tracks down the cable; a doorbell or entry camera that lost its connection when the home network was replaced; and night video ruined by a neighbor’s new floodlight or the driveway lighting on the same wall as the camera.
None of those require replacing the system. Most are a trimmed sightline, a re-terminated run, a repositioned mount, or a correctly separated network — done in one visit.
What a service call covers, and what turns it into an installation
People are rightly suspicious of a contractor who arrives for a repair and leaves with a proposal to replace everything. Here is the line we hold, in plain terms.
| Service call | Becomes an installation project |
|---|---|
| Diagnosing dead or intermittent channels | Adding coverage where no cable exists today |
| Re-terminating, repairing or rerouting existing cable | Replacing a cable plant that is beyond repair |
| Replacing a failed drive, power supply or single camera | Migrating a whole site to a different platform |
| Recovering ownership, setting retention, fixing remote access | Standing up a new recorder and network for the first time |
| Re-aiming, re-focusing and cleaning existing views | Changing camera types because the objective changed |
| Mapping and labelling an undocumented system | Designing coverage for a new build-out or remodel |
If your fault genuinely sits in the right-hand column, you will hear why, with the specific finding that puts it there. If it sits in the left, we repair it and leave.
What moves a 77027 estimate up or down
We do not publish prices and we will not quote a camera system sight-unseen — on a corridor this mixed, the same fault costs wildly different amounts depending on the building. The honest variables:
- Access hours. Work an operating restaurant can only allow before opening costs more than the same work in an empty suite at noon.
- Ceiling type. Accessible tile is quick. Hard lid, exposed structure at height, or a finished residential ceiling is not.
- Building requirements. Insurance filings, escorts, dock scheduling and after-hours supervision are real hours on a commercial job.
- Camera count and how many faults are live at once.
- Whether the platform is still supported — current hardware gets repaired, abandoned hardware gets an honest conversation.
