Security Camera Service in Houston, TX 77019
Cameras that went dark, an app that stopped connecting, a recorder nobody has the password to. EVOTECH IT LLC services existing camera systems around River Oaks, Allen Parkway and the West Gray corridor — licensed, insured, 20+ years in this trade, rated 5.0 stars. We diagnose on site, and the estimate costs nothing.
Four reasons a 77019 camera system stops earning its keep
Almost every service call in this ZIP arrives as one of four sentences. Two cameras are black. The app will not connect from my phone anymore. Something happened and the video is not there. We bought the house and inherited all of this. The cause is rarely the camera itself.
A camera is the visible end of a chain: the lens, the cable, the port on the switch or recorder that feeds it power, the recorder’s drive, the network, and whatever your internet provider is doing at the curb. Break any link and the symptom looks identical from the app — a black tile. That is why we do not quote a camera swap over the phone. We find the broken link first, because in this neighborhood it is usually the cheapest part of the chain that failed.
EVOTECH IT LLC has worked low-voltage around Houston since roughly 2004 — licensed, insured, rated 5.0 stars. We service systems other companies installed, and we put everything in writing before anyone touches a ladder.
We test in a fixed order, and it is not the order you would guess
Working the chain from the wrong end wastes your afternoon. A camera is replaced, the tile is still black, and now you have paid for a camera and still have the original fault. We start at the recorder and move outward, because that is where a single test rules out the most possibilities at once.
| What you see | What we check first | What it usually turns out to be |
|---|---|---|
| One camera black, the rest fine | Power and data at the recorder port, then the same camera on a known-good port | A failed port or a water-damaged termination, not the camera |
| Several cameras drop at the same time each night | Total power draw on the switch or recorder, plus infrared behavior after dark | A power supply at its limit that only fails when night illuminators switch on |
| Everything works at home, nothing works away from the house | The router, the provider’s equipment and how the system was published to the internet | An address change or a replaced modem — the cameras were never involved |
| Recording gaps, or footage stops at a certain date | Drive health and the recorder’s own event log | A drive at the end of its life, or a schedule that quietly stopped covering nights |
| Night video that used to be clear and is now washed out | Housing clarity, infrared output, and new lighting near the view | A clouded dome, a dead illuminator, or landscape lighting aimed at the lens |
Only after that do we talk about parts. If the answer is a replacement, you will know exactly which link failed and why.
The system the previous owner left, with no passwords and no drawings
77019 changes hands often, and camera systems change hands with the house. What gets handed over is usually a wall plate, a closet, and a phone number that no longer answers. There are no drawings, no admin credentials, and no record of which camera is on which channel.
That is a normal starting point for us, not a dead end. A documented recovery visit typically means: identifying the recorder and camera brands from what is physically there, establishing administrative control by the manufacturer’s own documented procedure, walking the property to map every camera to a channel and a physical location, testing each run, and leaving you with a written channel list and your own credentials.
One caution we will always give you: a system you did not commission may still hold recordings from the previous owner. Part of the handover is clearing what was there and starting your retention on your terms.
Plaster, brick and 1930s attics: where the wire can actually run
The housing stock here skews old and heavily renovated. Masonry and stucco exteriors, plaster interiors on wood lath, additions built in three different decades, detached garages and carriage houses across a motor court, and attics that were never designed for anyone to crawl through comfortably.
What that means for a service call is that the fastest repair is almost never a new cable path. Re-terminating an existing run, moving a camera a few feet to a mounting point that already has a penetration, or reusing a legacy coax path with the right adapters will usually restore a channel the same day — where pulling fresh cable would mean opening a ceiling.
- Detached structures — a garage apartment or pool house usually failed at the outdoor junction, not inside.
- Additions — the seam between old and new construction is where a run gets pinched or cut during remodeling.
- Attic heat — power supplies and network gear stored up there age far faster than the same equipment in conditioned space.
In a building on Allen Parkway or Kirby, the visit has a smaller footprint
Residential towers along Allen Parkway and Kirby near Buffalo Bayou Park are a different job from a house, and the limit is not technical. As a resident you control the inside of your unit. The corridors, the lobby, the garage and the building’s own camera and life-safety systems belong to the association or the management company, and we do not touch them without the building’s written go-ahead.
Practically, a tower service call runs like this: we confirm what the building permits, book the freight elevator and the loading dock through management, arrive inside the approved window, and keep the work inside your walls — interior cameras, a doorway view from inside your entry, your own recorder and your own network. Drilling an exterior wall or running anything through a common corridor is a building decision, not ours to make for you.
If your complaint is about the garage or the lobby, that belongs on management’s desk — we will put what we observed in writing so you have something concrete to hand them.
West Gray and Waugh suites: the footage has to survive being asked for
The small professional offices along West Gray, Waugh and Shepherd — attorneys, design studios, dental and aesthetic practices — call for a different reason than the houses do. Their systems are usually working. The problem surfaces on the one day somebody needs a specific two minutes of video and nobody can produce it.
A service visit for a suite is mostly about retrieval and retention rather than repair: confirming how many days the recorder truly holds at its current settings instead of what the brochure claimed, making sure the clock is right so timestamps line up with a door log or a receipt, checking that the export produces a file an outsider can open without your software, and making sure more than one person in the office knows how to pull it.
Where cameras point into treatment or consultation space we will raise it with you — what a practice records is your call and your compliance obligation, not something a contractor should quietly configure.
Discreet work on streets where nobody wants a van parked all day
Much of 77019 is narrow, mature and short on curb space, with tight motor courts and neighbors close enough to notice everything. We plan the visit around that: one vehicle where possible, drop cloths under any interior ladder work, no equipment staged on the front lawn, and cabling kept to existing paths and shadow lines instead of the shortest route across a facade. Where a repair leaves a visible change, we show you the mounting point and get your agreement before we drill, not after.
What makes one 77019 service call short and another one a project
We never quote a camera system by the channel over the phone, and we do not publish prices, because two identical-looking houses on the same street can differ by a full day of labor. What genuinely moves the estimate:
- Whether existing cable is reusable. Re-terminating is fast. Replacing a run through finished plaster is not.
- How many links are broken at once. One dead channel is an appointment; a failing drive plus an overloaded power supply plus a bad run is a scope.
- Access. Two-storey eaves over a paved motor court, attic conditions, or a building that only allows work in a narrow window.
- Whether the brand is still supported. Serviceable current hardware is a repair. Discontinued hardware with no parts path is a conversation about replacing part of the system.
- Documentation. Mapping and labelling an undocumented system takes real time, and it is the part that saves you money on every future call.
You get one itemized quote covering parts, labor and anything we recommend but you have not approved. Nothing gets added to it on the day.
What happens when we get there
We start at the recorder, not the ladder. Expect us to open the closet, read the event log, check drive health and power, and only then walk the property with you camera by camera. Most single-fault calls are diagnosed within the first part of the visit, and many are repaired the same day from stock.
If the fix needs a part we do not carry, you get the diagnosis in writing before we leave — what failed, what corrects it, and what we would leave alone. Ring (832) 359-2425 to get on the schedule, or leave the details at our contact page.
