Fireplace TV Mount Installer in Houston, TX 77025

The signature fireplace in this part of Houston is the mid-century corner unit, set on a diagonal with barely any wall either side of it. Add bayou-side remodels where the lower drywall has been replaced, and Medical Center rentals that have to stay patchable, and 77025 stops being a standard mounting ZIP.

The mid-century corner fireplace is the defining problem here

Houses built around Brays Bayou in the late forties and fifties love a corner fireplace. The firebox sits on a forty-five degree diagonal across the corner of the den, with a short angled face above it and almost no flat wall on either side. It is charming and it is the single most-asked-about mounting situation we see in Knollwood Village and Ayrshire.

The difficulty is geometry rather than strength. The angled face is usually narrow, so a bracket for a modern wide panel can run out of material before it runs out of anchor points. And a screen set square on a diagonal face points at the corner of the room, not at the sofa.

Three approaches work, and the right one depends on where the seating actually is:

  1. Square to the diagonal with a swivel. The plate lands on the angled face and an articulating arm swings the picture back toward the seating. Needs enough depth in front of the mantel and sound backing for a cantilevered load.
  2. Onto one of the flanking walls. If one of the two walls forming the corner faces the seating better, the fireplace stops fighting the television entirely.
  3. A corner-specific arm. Hardware exists that mounts across two planes of a corner. It is fussier to set and it wants proper structure behind both faces.

We stand where your chairs are and check the sightline before recommending any of them. A mount that looks correct from the doorway and wrong from the sofa is a failed install.

What is actually behind the brick in a Braeswood den

Mid-century Houston builders used masonry generously, but not uniformly. Above the firebox you may find solid brick through to the flue, or a single course of face brick laid over framing with an air gap behind it, or brick on the lower portion and plastered framing above. All three feel identical to a knuckle.

That is why we probe rather than assume. A single wythe of face brick with nothing behind it will hold a small tilting plate and will not hold a heavy articulating arm loaded at full extension — and the difference only shows up months later as a bracket that has worked loose.

Where the brick is good we prefer to anchor in the mortar joints. Joints take a sleeve well, repair cleanly, and spare you a visible drilled face if the panel ever comes down. Where the brick turns out to be veneer, the fasteners need to reach the framing behind it, and that changes both the hardware and the time on the quote.

Bayou-side remodels leave walls we will not make assumptions about

Plenty of houses along and near Brays Bayou have been remodelled after water. Typically the drywall was cut out to a line a few feet up, insulation replaced, and new board hung below the cut, with the original material left above.

For someone drilling into that wall it matters. Studs may have been sistered, blocking may have been added or removed, wiring and low-voltage cable may have been re-run at a different height than the original plan, and the horizontal seam is a real discontinuity rather than a cosmetic one.

None of that prevents a good installation. It simply means the wall gets scanned properly, and it means we ask about the house’s history at the estimate. Owners often know exactly what was done and to what height, and that five-minute conversation is more useful than any tool we carry.

If the fireplace itself took water, tell us. Masonry that stayed saturated can show mortar deterioration well above the flood line, and that has a direct bearing on whether the chimney breast can carry a mount at all.

Medical Center rentals and mounting without wrecking the wall

A steady share of the housing here is leased, often to people on fixed rotations at the Texas Medical Center a few minutes up Main Street. The brief in those homes is different: get a good picture, leave a wall that patches out in an afternoon.

That is entirely doable. A slim fixed or low-profile tilting plate concentrates the work into a handful of anchor points that fill and paint invisibly. Cable can run in a surface raceway that lifts away rather than a channel cut through board. We avoid drilling a masonry face where a joint will do, because a joint repairs and a face does not.

Two practical notes. Get written permission from the owner or management before the visit, not after; and tell us at the estimate that reversibility is the priority, because it genuinely changes which hardware we recommend.

A short chimney breast puts the hot band exactly where the vents are

Mid-century fireboxes tend to sit low with a shallow mantel close above them. That compresses the distance between the fire and wherever a panel’s bottom edge would land, and the bottom edge is generally where the ventilation slots are.

We take a surface reading at the mantel and a hand-width above after a real burn, not a courtesy flame. The band to watch is right there. Most televisions publish an upper operating limit in the region of 104°F, and a working open firebox with a shallow mantel can reach it comfortably.

If the numbers are unfavourable there is no dramatic fix required — a deeper mantel shelf deflects a surprising amount, a pull-down arm moves the panel out of the rising air while it is being watched, and in some rooms the screen is simply better placed elsewhere. What we will not do is mount it anyway and let you find out in January.

Slab foundations, shallow attics and the route the wire really takes

Most houses in this ZIP sit on slab, so there is no underfloor route. Everything goes up and over, or it stays inside the wall.

Where the attic above the den is workable, the clean answer is a vertical run inside the stud bay, into the attic, across, and back down wherever the sources live. Where a low-pitch roof leaves only a foot of clearance at the eaves — common on these long single-storey plans — access gets tight and the run may have to stay within the wall cavity or take a different room’s ceiling.

All concealed cable is in-wall rated, kept away from anything that gets warm, and secured rather than left hanging on the drywall edge. For power, either an existing receptacle is used or a listed in-wall relocation kit is fitted; anything requiring a new circuit is a licensed electrician’s work and we say so rather than improvising.

A typical Braeswood installation, in order

  1. Walk the room, sit where you sit, agree the exact position and mark it.
  2. Scan and probe to confirm what is behind the finish, including any remodel seam.
  3. Take heat readings on a working fireplace.
  4. Protect the hearth, floor and nearby furniture before anything is drilled.
  5. Set anchors, shim the rail true on masonry, and check level against the room.
  6. Run and dress power and signal along the route agreed at the estimate.
  7. Hang the panel, re-level under load, set tilt or swivel travel.
  8. Test every input, tidy up, collect dust at source and hand the room back.

Most single-screen jobs here are a half-day. A corner installation with an articulating arm and concealed cable through the attic runs longer, and the estimate will say so instead of leaving you guessing.

What we price, and what we will not guess at over the phone

The variables that move a 77025 quote are the angled-face geometry, whether the brick is solid or veneer, mount class, the cable route the attic will allow, whether power exists behind the screen, and whether the job needs to stay reversible for a lease.

Not one of those can be established over the phone, which is why the on-site estimate is free and why we do not quote dollar figures before seeing the wall. You get an itemised sheet — hardware, labour, concealment, any blocking or shimming — and the final invoice matches it.

Frequently asked questions

Our fireplace sits at forty-five degrees across the corner. Where does the television go?
Three options, decided by where your seating is. A plate on the angled face with a swivel arm that turns the picture toward the sofa; a mount on whichever of the two flanking walls faces the seating better; or corner-specific hardware that spans both planes. We stand in your chairs and check the sightline before choosing.
The house flooded and the lower drywall was replaced. Does that affect mounting above the fireplace?
It affects how carefully we scan. Remodelled walls can have sistered studs, relocated wiring and blocking that was added or lost, and the repair seam is a real break in the wall rather than a cosmetic one. Tell us the height of the cut line and what was done, and we will work with it.
We are leasing near the Medical Center for a fellowship. Is there a mount that patches out easily?
Yes. A slim fixed or low-profile tilting plate uses few anchor points and fills and paints in an afternoon, and cable can run in a removable raceway instead of a cut channel. Get the owner’s written permission first and tell us reversibility is the priority, because it changes the hardware we recommend.
Can you mount to the brick itself rather than the drywall above it?
Usually, and mortar joints are the preferred target — they take a sleeve anchor well and repair cleanly. The question we settle first is whether the brick is full masonry or a single veneer course over framing, because veneer alone will not carry a heavy articulating arm at full extension.
The attic over our den is only about a foot deep at the edge. Can cable still be concealed?
Often, but not always along the route people expect. Where the eave is too tight to work, the run may stay inside the wall cavity or cross through an adjacent room’s ceiling instead. We check the attic during the estimate so the route is known before we quote concealment, not after.
